Major Accomplishments
. Developed and implemented a new monthly and quarterly financial reporting
book for the Board of Directors, focusing on geographic and franchise
segmentation.
. Installed a new Worldwide Planning and Reporting System for collection of
actual, current year estimates and next year plan's, which enabled a 40%
reduction in the collection and consolidation time and a 50% reduction
of IT support costs.
. Developed and implemented a new Operational/Financial Scorecard to enable
the CEO and the Board of Directors to monitor critical performance linked
to the compensation system.
. Reduced Worldwide Marketing Services costs by approximately $100M in the
areas of storage, procurement, marketing symposia and market research
projects.
. Established a new finance product support group and analysis for the
Chief Marketing Officer, as the company moved from a region based
organization to a matrix franchise/region structure. This enabled newly
appointed General Managers to oversee products from end-to-end
(development to patent expiry).
. Developed and implemented new financial analyses contributing
approximately $8B in sales ($.5B above plan) by optimizing the use of
resources from product and country perspectives.
. Completed external SEC financial information for the $7B purchase of
Medco, a pharmacy benefits management company. Collaborated with internal
and external attorneys to conduct the due diligence required to complete
the acquisition.
. Implemented a Shared Services group for the company's Procure-to-Pay
function by consolidating all domestic locations, Canada and Puerto Rico,
and outsourcing document management and microfilming. Actions led to a
40% reduction in staff.
. Developed and implemented a four day finance training course for new and
existing employees, which encompassed the finance function, career
opportunities, policies and procedures and enabling systems. Course
enabled employees to understand their roles in the control environment
under Sarbanes-Oxley.
Professional Experience
Merck & Co., Inc
Controller Bone, Respiratory, Immunology and Endocrine (2007 - 2008)
Identified opportunities to increase sales and operating income of Merck's
largest product lines ($8B in sales) by optimizing investments across the
product portfolio and regions. Installed a Hyperion/Essbase planning and
reporting system to enable efficient operating and monitoring of results
from a historical and prospective basis. Collaborated extensively with the
Research Clinical Trials area to prioritize/optimize trials in order to
maximize revenues for product launches and in-line products. Approved
pricing policy changes for new and in-line products balancing revenue and
volume effects. Reported to the General Manager over the product portfolio.

Merck & Co., Inc (continued)
Controller Worldwide Human Health Marketing (2004 - 2007)
Supported the Chief Marketing Officer and senior staff with financial
controls, reporting, analysis and forecasting. Reviewed and approved
significant investments for the Marketing Services and Franchise Support
organizations supporting all international sites. Implemented new reporting
systems and led a project, which enabled reductions in marketing services
support costs of over $100M worldwide. Built a global staff of 21 finance
professionals responsible for reporting total results of Merck's worldwide
products which, was reviewed with the President Global Human Health and
CEO. Supported the Clinical Development area and developed new and novel
analyses to prioritize trials across Merck's portfolio. Finance
representative on the Senior Executive Human Health Committee (included
Presidents of Marketing and Research) where I presented financial results
and analyses to Senior Research and Marketing Management, to facilitate
resource allocation/portfolio optimization.
Executive Director Global Finance Information Services (2002 - 2004)
Responsible for the Finance area's global information technology, domestic
Procure-to-Pay (Purchasing through Payment) and Finance training groups,
including over 100 employees. Installed several new systems, including a
worldwide planning and reporting system via Adaytum, JDE installations in
several international sites, and implementation of global and local
repositories.
. Reduced headcount by 40% through outsourcing several manual processes to
external companies both within the US and off-shore.
. Initiated the transformation of the P-t-P group to a shared service
center by consolidating functions, previously performed at other domestic
locations as well as Canada and Puerto Rico.
. Created a Finance 101 course for both new and existing employees which
enhanced the implementation of Sarbanes-Oxley.
Executive Director Corporate Planning and Reporting (1993 - 2002)
Responsible for the financial planning and reporting of Merck & Company's
worldwide operations. Supported the CFO and CEO with planning, reporting
and analysis, and the impact of strategic investment candidates.
. Implemented a new planning and reporting system, via Hyperion and
subsequently Essbase which vastly improved the turnaround time for
information to Merck's CFO/CEO, Management Committee and Board of
Directors.
. Created an on-line Executive Information System, which enabled senior
executives to access critical financial information on a timely basis to
help monitor the business.
. Developed a new scorecard for evaluation of the company's results by
Senior Management and the Board of Directors, which was linked to
employee annual compensation.
. Completed the due diligence and SEC reporting needs for the $7B
acquisition of Medco, a pharmacy benefits management company.
. Created and implemented new Worldwide Human Health franchise reporting
and analysis to enable product investment optimization.
