. As a request from member clients I also created, wrote, implemented and

Director of Safety & Compliance
Scope: Risk Manager hired to monitor supplier safety programs and insurance
levels for contract compliance. Accident investigation and trend analysis,
write safety policies and programs, perform company background
investigations, acted as risk manager for insurance loss and subrogation of
claims. Managed reconstruction and remodeling of office space due to
expansion. Develop and manage carrier relations with contracted passenger
transportation carriers.
. Hired to write, implement and monitor transportation safety policies and
procedures for company and its customers. Did so during the first month
on the job. This led to better management of safety and reduction in
accident frequency.
. There was no effective way to monitor vendor levels of insurance to
provide coverage and contractual compliance. Over 4 months, outsourced
the monitoring. All contracts are now in compliance with dates and
coverage, reducing risk and lowering insurance expenses for the company.
. In order to comply with federal regulations an effective background
investigation system needed to be in place. Over 3 months, conducted
the research and outsourced the process. Wrote the HR related policies,
and trained staff.

District Environmental Safety and Health Manager
Scope: All aspects of regulatory compliance and human resources including:
risk management, investigation and subrogation of claims, license and
permitting of vehicles, compliance with OSHA, DOT, EPA, MPCA and ADA.
Wrote and implemented programs, policies, and orientation. Trained and
administered company drug testing program.
. Company was experiencing too many accidents and injuries. Instituted a
safety process where everybody became responsible for safety, regardless
of their position. Implementation took 6 weeks. Positive results
occurred over 8 months...reduced incidents and recordable accidents
while employee morale improved.
. Drivers were changing vehicles in the system and using different types
of controls. This resulted in an increased accident frequency. Rode
with drivers to gather info about their preferences. Secured buy-in
from maintenance, and had all vehicles switched to a single system.
This led to reduced accidents, and cost savings for maintenance, as only
one system needed to be serviced.

. Hired to teach a public safety course that had no curriculum or
textbook. Over the first year, figured out what was needed and wrote a
book over the summer. Textbook was approved and is now in print.
. After a successful first year, requested to establish a second year
program. Over 7 weeks, conferred with advisors and local Sheriff and
fire departments. Set up internship programs for four students and
wrote training curriculum for them. There was now an additional avenue
for students to follow to determine if they wanted to follow a Public
Safety career path.
