Reductive cyclization, CO insertion, and reductive elimination of unsaturated carbonyl compounds

had been shown to generate butyrolactones. The main focus of my work was to expand the methodology

to other substrates such as unsaturated imines to generate butyrolactames and to apply it to the

synthesis of the natural product Asteriscanolide.
