Responsible for managing benefit programs including medical, EAP, wellness, dental, vision, company and

voluntary life insurance, long term care, and all leaves of absence including short / long term disability, FMLA,

• Implemented new medical and dental programs which increased reported employee satisfaction

ratings from 54% to 72% favorable in an 18-month period. “Hands-on” responsibility for design,

implementation, and the daily maintenance of all benefit plans and systems.

recommendations to ensure plans were compliant with state and federal guidelines. Ensured that on-line

system properly updated all carriers with employees’ benefits elections via electronic carrier files.

• Resolved benefit claims, eligibility, and carrier file issues. Led appeals process under tight timeframes

by researching regulations and competitive / best practices, recommending solutions to eliminate recurring

problems, and coordinating with multiple constituencies on final outcome.

• Pioneered and directed a company wellness program including an Executive Wellness Plan with

100% participation, a proactive Biometrics screening, a flu shot program, and a walking program each with a

minimum of 40% participation. Converted an outdated paper benefits system to a fully accessible electronic

program.

• Implemented a global benefits program working with Aetna. Reviewed contracts and analyzed

consistency with US program offerings.

• Managed all benefits vendors including Aetna, Vision Service Plan, AON, ADP, Hewitt, CIGNA,

Prudential, and JP Morgan, ensuring the delivery of quality service and products. Reviewed and made

ongoing updates and recommendations to the benefits Summary Plan Description (SPD). Analyzed and

processed all vendor invoices.

• Facilitated the leave process for short term disability, FMLA, personal and military leaves,

communicating to employees, vendors, and payroll to ensure full accuracy and adherence. Reduced denial

time on unwarranted claims from more than 200 days to under 45 days.

benefits system, under budget and within a 6-month timeframe.
