CASCADE GRAIN PRODUCTS, LLC - Clatskanie, OR 2002 to 2009
President and CEO
Originally hired as General Manager to review the feasibility of building a
100 million-gallon ethanol plant in Oregon. Acquired the project from the
original developer and conducted all negotiations and presentations to
financial institutions and potential equity partners to complete the
financing of $120 million of senior debt and equity of approximately $80
million. Analyzed and developed the business plan, negotiated supply
contracts, off take agreements, utility and freight contracts,
environmental permits and other marketing and lease agreements. Oversaw
the construction of the project, and managed the company when the plant
became operational. Due to low margins in the industry and numerous plant
design issues the company was sold in December of 2009. The process
engineering firm that designed the plant went out of business in early
2010.
KBC Trading and Processing Company - Stockton, CA 2000 to 2002
(A subsidiary of ConAgra Foods, Inc. with 23 processing plants and $200
million in annual sales. Processes and markets edible beans worldwide)
Senior Trading Manager
Hired to work with company president and CFO to restructure and turn around
an unprofitable company. Analyzed existing operations; developed and
implemented strategic plans; rationalized product lines; closed obsolete
plants; improved capabilities of remaining plants; reduced personnel by
33%. Controlled an annual capital budget of over $1 million to upgrade and
modernize plants.
Managed the operations of 14 processing plants in three regions and was
responsible for the marketing of all products handled. Supervised a staff
of 100 through 16 direct reports (traders and plant managers). Responsible
for sourcing all internal edible bean requirements for ConAgra Foods with
sales in excess of $20 million per year.
. Implemented marketing programs that resulted in a region doubling the
volume of product handled while increasing the net profit to $2 million
dollars.
. Reduced plant costs by 32% in one region while maintaining sales volume
at over $17 million through effective plant utilization and improved
marketing programs.
. Negotiated long-term supply agreements within ConAgra and external
customers to guarantee sales volume for a base portion of KBC's business.
