Responsible for implementing and transferring new technology, procedures,
polices to department and industry personnel. Develop course material,
provide instruction and serve as laboratory skills monitor in the Superpave
Plant Technologist (SPT) qualification course. Investigate concerns or
failures regarding asphalt mixtures at the mixing plant, paving site and in
completed pavement. Provide technical assistants when problems with
failures arise and recommend corrective action plan. Inspect and approve
asphalt mixing plants prior to initial use on department projects. Observe
and monitor operations and process control/ acceptance/ verification
testing at the plant, site and source of ingredient materials. Recommend
adjustments to mixtures at plants. Coordinate with department, industry,
FHWA and other specialized personal to discuss and evaluate policies,
manuals, methods, specifications, equipment and industry. Write, review and
recommend changes to policies and procedures, manuals, methods, and
specifications concerning operation of asphalt mixing, asphalt production/
placement and process control acceptance/ verification testing. Maintain
and revise the Asphalt Mixtures Acceptance Workbook (AMAW) for use in
calculating and recording result of process control/testing/verification
process.
