Professional Experience
Plant Manager Metalcraft of Mayville - Southeast, Inc.
2008-2009
Direct all production activities in Fabrication and Machining plant in
support of major Off-Highway OEMs. Manage team of 220 skilled staff and
hourly employees at Metalcraft of Mayville's SE facility in Greensboro,
NC. Utilizing 44 CNC machining, and 10 robotic welders, my skilled team
provides complex fabrications to 5 Caterpillar Plants, as well as
Textron, Cummins and Deere facilities. Perform most customer contact
duties. Increased factory output to keep pace with record sales, from
$18MM (annualized) in June to >$25MM, then responded quickly to reduce
capacity in-line with poor economy. Plant closed 9/18/09, owners
consolidating remaining work into two WI facilities.
Accomplishments
. Led plant expansion efforts, adding $ 3MM automated Powder Coating
system
. Improved on-time deliveries, despite the large fluctuations in
customer requirements
. Rebuilt my management staff, adding new Lean Manager's position
Director of Operations Advanced Motors & Drives
2006-2007
Division of Kinetek, Manufacturer of AC and DC motors drives and controls,
owned by the Jordan Fund. I managed 150-180 hourly and 12 salaried
personnel who work in three sites in Syracuse NY, producing DC motors,
drives and service parts. Built 250,000 motors annually in a high mix,
short lead-time environment. Products used in Electric Lift Trucks,
Scissor Lifts, Golf Cars, and Boats. Supported sales growth from
$62,000,000 in 2005, to $70,000,000 in 2006.
Accomplishments
. Reorganized the Operations management team to support better quality
and on-time delivery.
. Developed effective foreign sourcing & planning and team, which
improved performance of our China Plant, and a growing family of Asian
suppliers.
. Directed successful Six-Sigma project to reduce Copper waste
Vice President of Operations Precision Steel & Welding, Inc.
2000-2005
Directed a team of 180 hourly workers and 15 office and supervisory staff
in Siler City, NC and Matamoras Mexico. Managed production and
distribution of complex steel fabrications to CAT, Deere-Hitachi, and
Ingersoll-Rand in a Lean Manufacturing environment. Increased sales over
the past five years from $12MM to over $30MM due to successful
implementation of Lean Manufacturing theory based on the Toyota Production
System (TPS) and Demand Flow Technology (DFT).
UK owners, the Elisa Tinsley Group, filed for protection from creditors
Jan 2006.
Accomplishments
. Improved direct labor productivity over 50% in the first three years
. Reduced inventory from $3,500,000 to less than $2,000,000 while
annual sales increased from $12,000,000 to over $30,000,000

Plant Manager Invensys - CompAir LeROI 1998-2000
Managed Invensys - CompAir compressor assembly facility, located in
Independence VA with sales of $22,000,000, producing Kellogg-American,
LeROI, Broomwade, and Hydrovane air compressors from 10 to 250 HP.
Directed production, materials, and customer service team of 90 in a high-
option and short lead-time environment. Implemented two, one-piece flow
compressor assembly lines.
Accomplishments
. Trained as Champion in Six Sigma program, developed local
green/black belts
. Reduced average order to remittance time from 8 weeks to less than 4
weeks.
. Reduced active Inventories from $5MM to 2.5MM in 12 months
Operations Manager Alloway Industries 1994 -1998
Directed Production, Materials, Quality and Manufacturing Engineering at
the Fargo ND plant. Managed plant expansion and new product
introductions for this joint venture with John Deere. Challenging product
introductions include "Big Pack" Square Balers and Beet Harvesters.
Worked closely with owners to attain joint venture's financial goals.
Achieved increased annual production & sales from $14MM to $36MM in 18
months. Implemented J.I.T. Systems, and Quality Awareness program.

. Rapid and successful integration of Deere's recently acquired line
of European Balers
. 75% of manufactured products replenished on a "just in time" basis

Manager, Advanced Mfg. Engineering Premark International 1989-
1993
Premark International's (now ITW's) Food Equipment Group HQ is located in
Troy OH. Brands include Hobart, Vulcan Hart and Wolf Range. Developed
strategic operations plan for ten plants in US and Canada. Directed
product sourcing and plant consolidation strategies. Advised plants on
technology application. Consolidated warehouses for POU systems,
increased supplier's JIT stocking
Accomplishments
. Rationalized cooking division closing two of three cooking product
plants saving $9MM
. Located competitive US electronic firms, returned digital scale
production from Taiwan supplier to US, saving over $400,000 per year
Senior Systems Engineer Litton Integrated Systems 1985-
1988
Division of Litton Industrial Automation Group, located in Hebron KY.
Led systems development for major companies combining any automation
equipment with Litton material handling systems and software. Specialized
in automotive and aerospace projects, developing client relationships,
managing projects, and generating client deliverables. Successful as a
leader and as an individual contributor.

. Sold, then led four automation studies for GM's Advanced Engineering
Staff, and GM-Saturn

Manufacturing Engineering Manager CAT Joliet and Davenport Works
1970-1984
Beginning in Materials planning and supervision, was promoted to Machine
Shop Supervisor, Material Systems Engineer, then to Manufacturing
Engineering Manager/Planning Staff Engineer. Active in corporate-wide
projects including Group Technology, Grinding Technology, MRP II system
development, and Cat's early Lean Efforts with the Automotive Industry
Action Group. Developed and implemented many projects including a
flexible manufacturing system for transmission cases, saving over $2MM
annually, and modifying a corporate Labor Reporting system saving over
$1MM per year.
