City School System ( Karachi, Pakistan) Nov 2002 to March 2006

Software Developer

Working as a software developer for City School System, I have been involved with the following

projects:

Project 1: Asset Management Web Portal

Developed and enhanced the functionality of asset management web portal for the City School

System, comprising of numerous branches throughout the city. The clients can view the drawings,

historical information and documents online through this portal.

Responsibilities:

Designed and developed web-based application using Struts framework and JSPs.

Involved with the design team to decide architecture for performance improvement.

Used JDBC to implement the required functionality. Developed JSP Custom tags for page rendering to

avoid inline code.

Used client-side and server-side validation using Struts validation; extensively used Struts tag libraries.

Rewrote queries to improve the performance of the site. Worked with Oracle (SQL) to optimize SQL

queries.

Used JUnit for unit testing and Ant for building projects.

Deploying the application on Tomcat.

Environment: Java 1.4, JSP, Struts, Tomcat, JUnit, Ant, JDBC, SQL and Oracle database

Project 2: Central Document Repository

The purpose of the project was to maintain a central place where teachers of the different branches of the

City School System can access training guides, manuals, and workshop materials.

Responsibilities:

Used Struts framework to develop this web-based application.

Developed JSPs for accessing MS Word and PDF documents.

Developed JSP Custom tags and wrote relevant TLDs for page rendering to avoid inline code.

Deploying the application on Tomcat.

Project 3: Exam Simulator

• Participated in the design and development of an examination simulator. The simulator randomly presents

40 questions out of two hundred from an Access database. The application also provides instant feedback

after the completion of the test.

Responsibilities:

• Assisted in writing code using Java programming language for exam simulation.

• Engaged in the development of various Java modules for exam simulation and selecting questions from

Access database.

• Performed testing and prepared documentation.

Junior Programmer

Worked as a junior software Programmer for MEP Engineers, a company engaged in providing

mechanical, electrical and plumbing services, engaging and participating in various software development

tasks.

Project: Projects Information Portal

Developed and enhanced the functionality of the existing projects information web portal which

is shared among the mechanical, electrical and plumbing units of the company for updating and viewing

project related information such as billing information, purchase of material, work status, etc. Each unit

can also update its project status and other related information.
