WORK TEMP MECHANICAL ENGINEER (Design and Development)
EXPERIENCE Sep2009-Mar 2010
Southco Inc., Honeoye Falls, NY
SOUTHCO INC. DESIGNS AND MANUFACTURES DOOR LATCHES, LOCKS, QUICK ACCESS
FASTENERS, HINGES, POSITION CONTROLS AND ELECTRONICS ACCESS SOLUTIONS
ETC. WHICH SUPPORT VARIETY OF APPLICATIONS SUCH AS AUTOMOBILE,
AIRCRAFT, ELECTRONICS, MEDICAL DEVICE AND COMPUTERS. THE PRODUCTS
CONSIST OF PLASTIC, METAL AND SHEET METAL PARTS.
Designed, development, testing and implementation of products, worked
as an integral part of a new product development R&D group from concept
development to implementation.
Redesigned adjustable compression latch in order to incorporate
standard screw and eliminate custom shaft while maintain company
standards using Uni-Graphics and DFMA concept. Annual Saving $ 90,000
Identified root cause failure and improved product design to sustain
extensive load for use in military application.
Redesigned vice action compression latch key in order to reduce cost by
eliminating welding and secondary slotting using Uni-Graphics. I was
involved with machine tooling and production tooling designing. Annual
Saving $ 150,000.
Experienced with Prototype development and conduct necessary test for
Design validation.
Improved retractable door hinge design by eliminated custom parts and
replace them with standard parts using Uni-Graphics. Standardized the
components for entire retractable door hinge family to reduce cost and
lead time by two weeks.
Reduce cost and lead time of T-handle and ball handle latches.
Designed a laboratory test fixture using Uni-Graphics, for cycle
testing. Utilized Sensor, load cells and Motor in conjunction with data
collection electronics. Responsible for procurement of the parts,
assembling the fixture, calibration of the load cells, and the use of
the fixture.
Used DOE techniques to find optimize value of parameter to get the best
and consistent result.
Utilizes DVP&R's for product validation and test planning and Gantt
chart for project planning.
Analyzed hardware Database using Excel Macro and Charts to find
opportunity for cost saving. Cost Saving $ 110,000.
TEMP MECHANICAL ENGINEER
Mar2009-Jul 2009
ROCHESTER INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY, ROCHESTER, NY
WORKED ON NEW MEDICAL EQUIPMENT RESEARCH PROGRAM. DEALT WITH ARTIFICIAL
HEART PUMP (LVAD), GD&T, TOLERANCE ANALYSIS OF ASSEMBLIES.
Recommended and Designed different configuration of artificial heart
pump to reduce overall length from 85mm to 45mm.
Modeled and assembled various mechanical parts and configuration of
Heart Pump. Also created detail drawings of the various mechanical and
electromechanical parts such as impeller, diffuser, brackets, Housing
etc. using Solid Works software. Used GD&T dimensioning standard.
Designed fixture for vibration testing of artificial heart pump which
utilized sensor and heart pump assembly using Solid Works.
Assembled Prototype for conducting test and then evaluated the test
results.
Designed fixture for coil winding, which was 0 .50in x 0.50 in. in size
using Solid Works.
Created animation of Heart pump to explain how it works for exhibition
at RIT using solid works.
MECHANICAL ENGINEER CO-OP
