SUMMARY OF QUALIFICATIONS
Over 10 years of experience in the plastics extrusion industry serving as
engineer and plant manager. Proven record of success managing as many as
100 employees, developing new products and new manufacturing processes.
Strong technical and people skills to attain successful results in
challenging environments.
KEY ACCOMPLISHMENTS
. Managed all manufacturing and R&D processes in a plastics
manufacturing facility. This included troubleshooting equipment,
implementing and following quality standards and managing employees
efficiently.
. Designed and implemented the manufacturing processes for new rubber
and plastic extruded products that account for 15% of the company s
sales.
. Radically reduced cost of products through continuous improvement and
lean manufacturing principles changing raw materials, increasing
efficiencies, and systematizing production planning, manufacturing,
and inventory information.
. Implemented quality and manufacturing standards increasing efficiency
and achieving zero defects for products shipped to our principal
client during the last two years.
PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE
PLANT MANAGER Bogota, Colombia 2003-
present
Arneses y Gomas S.A. www.ayg.com.co
Responsible for all aspects of manufacturing and R&D activities including
managing up to 100 workers in the areas of rubber and thermoplastic plastic
extrusion, injection molding, and product assembly.
. Developed processes and tooling for new rubber and plastic extruded
products including tubes, profiles, hoses and cables that currently
account for 15% of the company s sales. These new products were
extruded in diverse materials such as PVC, PA, PP, PE, TPE, TPV, XLPE,
NBR, EPDM and others.
. Successfully applied lean manufacturing principles like 5s, fast
response meetings, visual management, preventive maintenance,
standardized jobs, seven wastes reduction, and others.
. Managed the process to procure and deploy three new tube extrusion
lines and two new rubber hose extrusion lines.
. Replaced materials of many extruded and molded rubber products with
lower cost/higher performance ones resulting in considerable
reductions in costs (TPE, TPV, XLPE, etc).
. Implemented ISO and automotive quality standards throughout the
organization including, ISO, TS16949 (FMEA, APQP) and QSB.
. Reduced the defective parts per million delivered to GM (principal
client) to zero during the last two years.
. Lead a team of engineers to develop rubber compounds in-house (EPDM,
NBR). This allowed savings in rubber raw material of up to 25%.
. Researched, evaluated, and successfully implemented new suppliers for
imported raw materials to reduce costs.
. Designed and implemented an assembly line for manufacturing ignition
wires that reduced assembly times by 12%.
. Developed a SQL/ PHP database and reporting system that reduced lead
times by 50%, by serving real time data to different plant
departments.
. Designed and implemented a system for production control in the area
of molded products to monitor efficiencies and operator performance.
Efficiency on this area jumped 14% on a one year period with an
increase in operator motivation.
. Developed a new model for production planning that eliminated
incomplete orders due to stock outs and reduced the inventory days of
finished product from 31 to 22.
. Kept workers motivated and willing to help the company.
SENIOR PROCESS ENGINEER - MTS (Promoted in record time)
Norcross, GA 1998 - 2002
Lucent Technologies / OFS www.ofsoptics.com
. Lead project to modernize ribbon and cable testing systems to increase
productivity:
o Designed software algorithms to analyze OTDR traces (Optical
Time-Domain Reflectometry).
o Developed Visual Basic (VB) applications to interact with
hardware.
o Created VB/SQL/Coldfusion applications for data storage,
analysis and retrieval
o Interacted with IT professionals, shop floor personnel,
engineers and supervisors to have a final product that solved
all needs.
. Supported the fiber optic testing in the ribbon production area
analyzing product defects, troubleshooting equipment and striving for
continuous improvement of productivity.
. Supported the manufacturing process of optical fiber ribbon cable:
o Implemented and troubleshot instrumentation and control systems
including online thickness measurements and human-machine
interfaces.
o Analyzed process conditions including temperatures, speeds,
thicknesses and others to optimize the manufacturing process.
o Developed software that delivered real-time information of each
manufacturing line via web browser interface (Visual Basic and
Wonderware).
o Provided IT support for ribbon cable manufacturing.
