Academic Research

2 Year-Academic Research Experience for M.Sc.:

LC-MS-MS (Thermo TSQ Quantum, ESI, Triple Quadrupoles)

Bioanalytical research, including intensive troubleshooting and problem-solving

with the instrument, sample preparation, and method development

9 months in Environmental: GC-MS (Agilent, FID/TIC) with Purge/Trap Autosampler,

Varian Spectr AA

2.5 years in pharmaceutical including polymer characterization:

HPLC (Shimadzu, UV) with GPC, RP, Ion Exchange Columns

UV/Vis, KF, SPE, ELISA, and dissolution tester

Provided assistance and support to start a new QC lab

RESEARCH EXPERIENCE

01/2008 - Graduate Research for Masters of Science in Analytical Chemistry

5/2010 Supervisor: Prof. Dale Chatfield, San Diego State University

Method Development for Analysis of Testosterone / Epitestosterone in

Human Samples Using LC/MS/MS

Worked on a separation method-development of

testosterone/epitestosterone using LC/MS/MS (Thermo TSQ Quantum with

triple quadrupoles, mostly on ESI, some APCI mode), software:

Xcalibur 2.0.6

10 pg/mL LOD and 50 pg/mL LOQ of standard solutions and reconstituted

urine samples were targeted for a faster and more sensitive method

than existing GC/MS/MS methods utilizing derivatization of

sugar-conjugate steroids

Urine sample preparation: enzymatic hydrolysis of steroid conjugates

followed by solid supported liquid-liquid extraction (Hydromatrix)

/SPE (Isolute C8)

Trouble shooting on HPLC and ESI sprayhead, cleaning the capillary

inlet, replacing tubing, fixing clogging, assisting the supervisor

cleaning quadrupoles

Data collection: exporting and organizing data onto excel sheets

Good analytical laboratory practice: accurate and precise

measurements, paying attention on details, good notebook keeping

Literature search and reviews

Pfizer-Academic Industrial Relations: interactions with multiple

chemists to learn the roles of analytical chemistry and mass

spectrometrists in all parts of projects, with career consultations

and advice over 6 months provided by Michelle Tran-Dube, M.S., at

Pfizer
