Training:
Mark Davis 2 week (80hours) course in UT advanced detection and sizing utilizing
IGSCC, and tip diffraction, Bi-Modal, and IDCR creeping wave. Mark Davis 3 week
course (120 hours) OMNI SCAN MX Phased Array with performance qualification.
Spartan School of Aeronautics 180 hours radiation safety, 180 hours Radiography using
X-ray tubes, Ir-192, Cobalt 60, also included film interpretation and causes of weld
defects. 180 hours Ultrasonic UTSW and Straight Beam using multiple scopes and

Experience:
Corporate ASNT NDT Level III
Current Corporate ASNT NDT Level III/QA Manager. Have been a corporate ASNT
NDT Level III for IMPro Technologies, PPS Inc. and Caltrop. Caltrop is performing
QA/Inspection duties for Caltrans on the largest bridge project in U.S. history the San
Francisco/Oakland Bay Bridge. My job was to implement an NDE inspection program
through developing a written practice and NDT procedures in RTFI, UT, MT, and PT, and
certifying inspectors coming on board and then tracking the overall system through Level
III’s I have placed on job sites around the world, were the bridge is being fabricated.
Some of these locations include China, UK, Japan, Korea, and various locations
throughout the U.S. I was a corporate ASNT NDT Level III for IMPro Technologies,

which provides advanced inspection technologies such as GUL. I created an NDE
inspection program much like same above, but I was the single Level III to implement
and monitor the program U.S wide. PPS is a worldwide oilfield supplier of separators,
scrubbers, flares, and associated equipment. I developed the NDE inspection program
much the same as above. I also developed an ASME U, R stamp, welding procedures,
and fabrication shop SOP’s.
Fabrication Shops:
QC Manager of three ASME fabrication shops. Obtained and maintained U and R stamp
requirements. Earlier in my carrier I have performed Radiography using Ir-192, Cobalt-
60, and X-ray tubes on anything from 1” pipe to 60” diameter tanks, vessels, valves,
structural steel, pipe, and plate. I’ve also performed Ultrasonic angle beam, Magnetic
Particle, Dye Penetrate, and visual inspection such as dimensional checks for
conformance to job specifications and drawings, leak testing, hydro testing, vibratory
stress relief and heat treating. CWI inspection on Caltran bridge projects, Washington and
Organ state water works projects, and structural steel, school and hospital projects.
Quality Assurance Manager, duties included developing welding procedures, procedure
qualifications, and welder qualifications, painting/coating inspection, NDE UTSW AWS
and ASME, MT, PT, RT film interpretation from outside venders, scheduling and
coordination of outside venders. Review of job specifications and drawings before being
sent to production. I performed dimensional tolerances checks of welded, fabricated, and
machined parts, fit up and welding inspection. I also have set up and development of
inspection procedures and techniques. I have been responsible for writing quality
assurance procedures, quality manual per ISO 9001-2000. Wrote AISC QA manual went
through entire process but company decided not to pay associated reoccurring fees.
Developed NDE written practice requirements, NDE procedures in UT, MT, and PT,
responsible for certification and training of QA department per SNT-TC-1A and written
practice. Duties also included contract review, coordination and chair Quality Assurance
meetings, problem solve in Quality Control issues.
Oil & Gas: Performed code compliance, per ASME Section VIII Division I, ASME
Section IV, ASME Section V, ASME Section II, API 510 Maintenance Inspection and
Testing of in service pressure vessels, ASME B31.3 process piping, ASME B16.5
flanges, and all applicable codes for pressure vessels and process piping, pipe lines, oil
and gas pressure vessels such as; test separators, knock out drums, flares, heaters, sand
traps, H2S scrubbers and associated process piping. Wrote QA manuals for fabrication
and maintenance shops, wrote NDT procedures and techniques for inspections of above-
mentioned equipment, Obtained ASME Section VIII Division I “U” stamp and NB R
stamp for company. Performed and wrote API 510 maintenance, inspection procedures.
Scheduled, performed and coordinated inspection activities for shop and field personal. I
performed pipeline inspections using various NDE techniques, such as GUL, RT, UT,
MT, PT, VT, PMI and material compliance. Also wrote Oxy Key energies hard line

piping coming off wellhead inspection program and coordinated inspection activities for
this inspection program.
Refineries:
I formally worked for Chevron Richmond Refinery as a Unit Inspector in hydro
processing unit. This unit contains exchangers, separators, hydrocrackers, scrubbers, high
temp and high pressure equipment. My job was to ensure all code repairs were done per
code and all inspections were done per API 510 and API 570 code and to insure the on-
stream department UT readings are current and accurate. I also used Meredium and
Maximo as my reporting base for TML and inspection requirements are done.
I also performed UT thickness testing, UT corrosion mapping using A and B Scan
techniques. UT angle beam, UT long-range guided wave ultrsonics (GUL), and RT of
weldments and profile shots of pipe walls and AWS CWI/QC inspection, MT, PT and
visual inspections in and out of various types of equipment.
Pipelines:
Managed ECDA/ICDA digs based off ILI tool and DCVG surveys. Also performed chief
inspector duties for pipeline transmission ILI retrofits. Performed pipe to soil surveys
using a half cell to check voltage and/or soil ph. Performed observation of anode and test
station installations. Held daily safety meetings of construction crews performing
excavations, also observed excavation requirements. Performed pipeline radiography of
new construction gas, oil, and steam lines, corrosion rate monitoring utilizing VT and RT
such as contact shots and profile shots of corrosion and erosion, and various applications
of UT straight beam using A and B scan techniques mapping and checking depth of
corrosion, also performed manual UTSW of piping butt welds and miter welds. I also
performed various applications of MT and PT. I am also a certified Level I GUL operator
with road Xing certification by GUL Ltd, with additional road crossing module.
Performing Guided Wave Ultrasonics using the Wave Maker SE-16 and G3 on pipelines
above ground, underground, insulated, uninsulated, concrete lined, partially filled,
bitumen coated, road crossings, of 2” through 36” diameter pipe. Also performed
inspection of injection wells, flow lines, concrete water lines with steel pipe
reinforcement, pump stations, exchangers, tanks, and vessels.
Power Plants:
Performed CWI, RT, UT, and PT on HRSG’s, pressure vessels, piping and associated
internal and external equipment.
Construction:
I performed AWS CWI, UT, MT, PT, RT, Epoxy, Reinforced Concrete, Masonry, ACI,
and bolting on structural steel one story to high-rise buildings, schools, farms, power
plants, and boilers. I also performed RT on concrete looking for rebar, post tension cable
and conduit.

I used X-ray tubes, Penetrate Baths, and Head Shot, on various types of materials such as
beryllium, composites, bonded, light bulbs, wood, and castings.
Consulting:
Own and operate Thompson Consulting Testing & Inspection.
Write and develop NDE programs, procedures and techniques. Certify and train Level I, II, and
III individuals. I audit NDE programs, ASME, API, AISC manuals. Perform welding issues
consulting. Develop WPS, PQR, and WQR per applicable codes the company may use. Also, help
interpret code compliance issues. Perform API 510, API 570, and AWS CWI duties. I am also a
retained ASNT NDT Level III of four companies, which do business in oil and gas, structural
steel, schools, hospitals, pipelines, and fabrication.
Advanced Inspection:
I am currently an advanced GUL level I with specific road xings, with the ability to become
certified as a Level II very quickly. I have shot anything from 2’’ to 36’’ diameter piping to
include un coated above ground pipe with multiple types of supports to include long. welded
supports, clamped supports, wood supports and metal supports, coated pipe with bitumen coating,
plastic wrapping, and other types of coatings, all types of road xings, buried piping, and bell
holes, concrete lined pipe that was either buried or above ground. I was first certified as a GUL
operator in 2003 or 2004 to the SE-16 and re certified to the G-3 in 2007. I am current in the
latest software Guided Ultrasonics has provided. I was trained, have, and continue to work with
the best GUL operators in the world. I have also written procedures pertaining to GUL for a major
oil company. I also have sold GUL to major oil companies. I truly believe at this time GUL (long
range ultrasonic’s) is the most efficient, productive, quality tool to inspect piping for I.D. and O.D
anomalies. Also certified in UT IGSCC crack detection and Phased Array.
Training I provide:
Training beyond what was previous stated. I am currently developing my own NDE textbooks in
UT, RT, MT and PT. I have written and taught a corrosion specific course pertaining to signal
characteristics of corrosion, erosion, inclusions, and laminations. I feel this course, is severely
needed in our industry. I also teach RT, RTFI, UT, MT, and PT Level I, II, and III classes.
Can do but not certified in ICBO Reinforced Concrete, Masonry, Bolting, ACI,
Painting/Coating Inspection, PMI, Brinell hardness.

I have performed Level III duties, QA management with QC inspectors working under
me, in this setting I have coordinated internal and external contract inspection companies,
managed all aspects of external contract review, roles and responsibilities of the
inspection company, and performed internal and external audits of work being performed
and procedures being used for this inspection work. I have also been a project
coordinator/project manager. I have coordinated inspection personal to cover jobs, made
sure they had proper equipment and tools and was intimately involved in profit loss
concerning theses jobs. I have also been involved in sales and marketing. I would go out
