- National Science Foundation (NFS) project: Developed a novel nanoscale
welding process based on femtosecond laser-induced electrical
discharge. (a) Wrote Labview programs to integrate 3-axis piezo-motion
table, mechanical shutter, oscilloscope and CCD camera, (b) process
design and optimization, (c) data acquisition and analysis, (d)
material surface characterization (SEM, AFM, STM, EDX, FIB, etc).
- Designed and optimized fiber-laser micro-welding process with nickel
based alloy for a MEMS device
- Studied the Nickel-690 alloy TIG welding process with electromagnetic
stirring (to refine grain size and reduce crack defects)
- Machined micro-scale patterns on various materials (metal, glass,
semiconductor and biomaterial surfaces) for different applications
with femtosecond laser and CNC control system.
- In charge of femtosecond laser system maintenance
Research Associate

- Designed testing samples and fixtures to study the mechanical
properties of nanoporous alumina thin film, and measured deformation
by using laser speckle interference technique.
- Performed mechanical tests for these porous films, and applied
numerical simulation for the tests by using self-programmed finite
element code and ABAQUS.
