Accomplishments completed with no Environmental or OSHA incidents, negligible lost
productivity due to unplanned events, within the planned budget and
returned to normal operation before schedule. Over 80% of the craftsmen
on this job were new to the site and unfamiliar with this company’s safety
requirements.
Reduced the cost of a shutdown lighting required for a critical confined
space entry job from $35,000 to approximately $11,000. The entire cost
was unplanned due to a mandatory change to the Confined Space Entry
requirement by the corporate safety team. This unplanned event was
discovered after the local department plans and budgeting had been
finalized. I worked closely with local electrician and we located alternate
lighting that satisfied the requirement and actually provided better lighting
for the job. The lights that we introduced were added to the department’s
list of acceptable options for turnaround and maintenance activities.
Guided improved communications and efficiency between contract
personnel and operations personnel by forming cross-functional teams.
Lock Out Tag Out incidents were numerous. Internal audits revealed that
inadequate communication caused 80% of the incidents. The number of
errors was reduced by 85% within 18 months. The contractors and
operations personnel developed a level of trust for each other per random
interviews. Site management published the success in a site newsletter.
