Public Relations Experience
The Cincinnati Bengals
Public Relations Season Intern - July 2009 to January 2010
I worked full time and assisted with all aspects of media
relations. I worked closely with the media, players, coaches and
staff, edited the weekly news release and game program,
wrote/updated weekly player biographies, regularly set up
interviews with players and coaches, tracked news clips, set up
news conferences and the press box, transcribed news conferences,
monitored players' Twitter accounts each day for the head coach,
wrote news releases and helped with a variety of other daily tasks.
I served as a liaison to HBO's Emmy-winning reality series Hard
Knocks: Training Camp with the Cincinnati Bengals and worked
through several events which garnered increased media attention,
including the death of an assistant coach's wife (Mike Zimmer), the
death of a player (Chris Henry), a division championship and a home
playoff game.
Change Congress
Campaign Assistant - Spring 2009
I worked on a campaign with a team of five students to inform
citizens about legislative ethics. I researched the subject matter
with my team, then used that research in the implementation of
public relations techniques. The majority of our research came in
the effectiveness of different social media strategies.
BGSU Athletic Department
Athletic Communications Assistant - Spring 2009
I assisted with communications and media relations before, during
and after BGSU sporting events, as well as in the office. I
communicated with local and national media outlets, prepared and
distributed information to the media, communicated with coaches and
players, assisted with press conferences and helped prepare and
distribute media guides.
Ft. Meigs YMCA
Public Relations Assistant - Fall 2008
As part of a service learning project through BGSU, I worked at the
Fort Meigs YMCA in Perrysburg, Ohio, to assist with various aspects
of public relations. I helped promote the branch's events, programs
and activities to the community and local media by constructing
news releases, fact sheets, flyers, letters to the editor, media
lists and other public relations devices.
Do It Now - BGSU
Campaign Assistant - Spring 2008
I worked on an organ donation campaign with a group of students at
BGSU in which I was in charge of making all fliers, posters and
handouts, as well as assisting in the planning events for
publicity. I also worked tables, distributed information and helped
in the evaluation process. At its conclusion, I was one of four
students chosen to present our campaign's methods, activities and
results to a panel of judges as part of a statewide collegiate
competition.
The BG News
Sports Reporter - Fall 2007
I covered the 2007 BGSU Men's Soccer Team for the campus newspaper.
I attended and covered all games, conducted interviews and wrote
stories and features on the team. I also wrote other feature
stories for the Sports Section aside from the soccer team.
