HEAD/PENN RACQUET SPORTS, Phoenix, AZ 1996 – 2009
Sporting Goods manufacturer and distributor with $125 million in revenue in the US and over $450 million globally (FY -2009).
Chief Information Officer (2000–2009)
Information Systems Executive responsible for leading information technology strategies and initiatives for North American
operations including applications (SAP) development, support and maintenance. All infrastructure support and maintenance:
MS windows servers, MS Windows desktop OS, MS suite of collaboration applications (Exchange/Office/SharePoint),
WAN/LAN/WLAN, Avaya and Intertel PBX systems, network design and security, VOIP solutions, VPN and PPTP solutions
and all helpdesk support initiatives. Assigned additional responsibilities in 2007, added the role of Director of Distribution,
assuming responsibility for all North American distribution centers, customer service, and logistics operations. Responsible for
over $9M annually across several cost centers as well as over 10-15 direct reports and 75-85 indirect reports.
IT Leadership Highlights:
• Led several successful and on budget SAP implementations/upgrades within the HTM group’s North America
offices which saved the organization more than $2M in contractor/consulting costs by establishing and utilizing an internal
SAP competency center. All projects completed on-time and within budget.
• Directed VMware ESX Virtualization initiative which led to a 75% reduction in physical servers and saw over
$150K annual savings in server maintenance and licensing costs. Additional savings of approximately 50% in power
reduction also realized.
• Championed several corporate saving initiatives coordinating several vendor audits, which resulted in significant
corporate savings. In one case, this project led to saving of over $300K annually for voice services. Identified several
other cost savings opportunities in the area of consolidation of IT maintenance/equipment agreements and software
contracts which resulted in approximately $150K in annual savings.
• Managed SOX 404 (IT operations and Security) compliancy effort for the North American IT operations which was
approved by corporate auditing firm.
• Led “in-source efforts” of EDI (Electronic Data Interchange), which ultimately saved the organization well over
$200K in service fees and over $500K in vendor chargeback’s.
• Developed, wrote and implemented several corporate IT policies – Network and Perimeter Security - Backup and
Recovery – E-mail usage and Retention – Internet usage – Helpdesk SLA.
• Implemented Warehouse Automation initiative which resulted in efficiencies and cost savings viewed by the
organization as “game changing”. The organization saw incredible productivity gains and reduced headcount (over $200K)
and gained the ability to have real-time and accurate inventory data.
Operations Leadership Highlights:
• Led “in-source efforts” of $1.5M 3PL Business. This effort involved the design and build out of a new DC, hiring
management and operational staff, appropriating equipment, establishing and renegotiating new and existing vendor
agreements. The effort is estimated to save the organization over $650K per year over 5 years. There was also no
disruption to customer deliveries during this transition.
• Managed the full reorganization of the primary N.A. Distribution Center moving CSI scores from a previous
ranking of 6 out of 6 for On-Time and Accurate Shipments, on a semi-annual industry recognized customer satisfaction
survey to a position of number 2 in under 20 months. A key element to this dramatic jump in the rankings was the increase
in the Same Day Shipping percentage from 80% to a consistent 99%.
• Led an analysis of warehouse operation team member processes and established metrics which resulted in
reduced O/T hours for FTE by more than 75% and reduced the need for temporary labor by more than 85% with no
degradation of service to our customers.
MIS Director (1996 – 2000)
Directed technology professionals in the development and support of core business systems, applications and reports. Initiator
and leader of move from Legacy Big Iron infrastructure and dumb terminal technology to P.C.’s running Client Server
Technologies.
• Implemented redesign and deployment of core reporting modules within JD Edwards ERP System. This initiative
resulted in delivery of a real-time reporting system for the sales force. This new system gave management complete
visibility into the daily sales of the organization. Management now had current sales data by product line, sales territories,
product categories and sales persons and could now make adjustments to the business to ensure sales forecasts were
realized.
• Led selection and implementation of first corporate LAN/WAN and E-Mail System.
• Developed corporations Y2K initiatives which resulted in no loss of time, money or data.
COMPUTER APPLICATION SPECIALIST INC., Beltsville, MD 1990 - 1996
Senior Associate
Managed professional teams of up to five programmers in the development, support and maintenance for two legacy products
(MPact - Membership plus Accounting) and (DMS - Donor Management System). This involved defining new ideas for the
legacy products, scheduling design meetings, coordinating workflow between programmers and monitoring completion of
assigned tasks.
• Led project teams in the design, prototype, creation and installation of such applications as a General Ledger system with
variable length account number structure.
