The Saint-Gobain Containers, Inc. - Dolton Production Facility is a two
union (GMP and USW) 360+ employee 24-hour multi-production line specialty
food, beverage, and spirits glass container manufacturing and warehouse
facility.
Responsibilities:
- Management of the environmental, health, safety, life safety systems, and
workers compensation programs to ensure the continued safety of the
employees, as well to ensure compliance with all state, and federal
regulations.
- Implemented and maintaining a successful Environmental Health and Safety
Management System that:
- Identifies and manages the environmental aspects of the Dolton
operations
- Works with plant operations team to identify evaluate and develop
corrective action plans for workplace hazards that establish the
safest way to perform specific job functions and that incorporate
the best elements of behavioral safety and person-based factors.
- Drives continuous improvement in all aspects of the environmental
health and safety management process
- Champion and lead pro-active safety programs in areas such as Hazard
Communication, PPE, Lockout/Tag out, Machine Guarding, Electrical Safety,
Chemical Safety, and Confined Space Entry, and Emergency Response
activities.
- Drive continuous safety performance improvement by implementing an
incident investigation, root cause analysis and corrective action process
for all safety and environmental incidents.
Achievements:
- Engagement of the hourly union workforce with behavioral based safety
programs and employee lead safety programs.
- Lead a significant reduction in the incident severity and reduction of
the OSHA Rate for the Dolton Plant.
- Lead a cross functional water conservation and filtration project to
reduce the water use by > 30,000,000 gallons and waste water treatment
costs by > $250,000 per year through instillation of oil skimmer units,
process improvements and control, and completing a negotiated agreement
with the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago to
subtract consumptive evaporation losses from the cooling towers.
- Lead a reduction of workers compensation costs by 70% from 2008 to
present by driving continuous safety performance improvement by
implementing an incident investigation, root cause analysis and
corrective action process.
- Championed the development of an environmental/waste reduction team to
drive the Dolton Plant to reduce the environmental footprint of the
Dolton Plant.

high-hazard 24-hour multi-division specialty alcohol and food grade
production facility that was closed in February 2009.
Responsibilities:
- Managed the safety, health, sanitation, life safety systems, workers
compensation, and security program to ensure the continued safety and
security of the employees, as well to ensure compliance with all local,
state, and federal regulations.
- Broadly engaged employees in safety programs, supported site leadership
to move the safety culture from dependence on management oversight, to
each employee independently driven to assure they and co-workers are
safe.
- Lead the revitalization of the site safety committee with the
implementation of quarterly inspections that were lead by the department
hourly representatives with management assisting on the technical and
financial aspects of the issues identified.
Achievements:
- Lead a 40% reduction in OSHA DART rate with DART rate approximately 60%
below the national average for NAICS code.
- Implemented internal inspection and maintenance programs on the
facilities belt-driven manlifts, fire protection systems, and
eyewash/safety showers with significant reduction in external
