General Dynamics Armament and Technical Products, Burlington VT
04/2001 - 07/2010 Senior Project Engineer, Mechanical (2003 - 2010):
Lead Project Engineer for major electromechanical subsystems of the state
of the art DDG-1000 Naval Destroyer Advanced Gun System (AGS). Led teams
of as many as four engineers and three design specialists through design
and manufacture of three large complicated electromechanical subsystems
simultaneously, totaling over $7M.
. Managed all project objectives, established performance requirements
and authored specifications, derived technical performance
measurements, performed project risk analysis, and managed mitigation
activities. Established project schedule and cost budgets, developed
staffing profiles, determined volume of work and expertise required.
o High efficiency consistently ensured on-time product deliveries 15%
or more below projected labor costs
. Interfaced directly with customer and subcontracted manufacturers to
ensure requirements compliance and resolution of manufacturing issues.
Responsible for all project decisions. Validated design modifications
to address manufacturer requests for producibility improvements.
Defined disposition and repair procedures for non-conformances.
o Ensured 100% performance compliance on all projects despite fluid
customer requirements and scope changes
. Authored Statements of Work and performed source selection and award
activities with multiple manufacturers, negotiated costs, and
established manufacturing milestones.
. Lead team and performed detailed design task for emerging technology
Automated Transfer System for Office of Naval Research Automated
Material Movement program.
o Completed entire preliminary design in just 3 months and under
budget despite challenging programmatic circumstances. Design
definition and capability exceeded customer expectations!
. Performed mechanical design engineering concurrent with the team
leadership role.
o Through innovative design improvements, reduced the manufacturing
cost of one subsystem by 40%, from over $1M to $600K and
manufacturing time by 20%.
. Hand-picked for Program Lead Engineer role providing engineering
leadership for the entire AGS program totaling over $50M. Provided
all program technical guidance and oversight of subsystem lead
engineers. Conducted customer cost/scope negotiations, and led $25M+
proposal development for next program phase. Focal point technical
liaison with customer, government DCMA representatives, and internal
management.
Mechanical Hardware Design Engineer, (2001 - 2003):
Developed innovative designs for US Army Crusader artillery, Comanche
gunship, and Naval Advanced Gun System ammunition handling systems. Tasks
include part and assembly CAD designs, material selections, manufacturing
methodology, and Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing analyses.
Performed CAD assembly mechanizations and computer kinematic analyses (PRO
Engineer Mechanism). Performed design calculations including structural
member sizing, design of complete drive systems, and limited computerized
Finite Element Analysis (FEA). Ensured all aspects of design Technical
Data Package conformed to Department of Defense regulations, company
development standards and industry practice. Performed system testing,
authored test plan, established test objectives, performed data collection
and analysis, as well as hands-on assembly, disassembly, and mechanical
troubleshooting of system and test equipment.
Active Duty United States Air Force Officer
05/1995 - 04/2001
Captain, United States Air Force, ICBM Missile Combat Crew Commander,
Malmstrom AFB MT (1998 - 2001):
Commanded Missile Alert Facility, ten Intercontinental Ballistic Missile
Launch Facilities, and all operations and personnel within the flight area.
Lieutenant, United States Air Force, Chief of Integrated Baseline
Management Branch, Cheyenne Mountain Upgrade (CMU) Program, Peterson
AFB CO (1995 - 1998):
Responsible for the definition of baseline requirements of the $3B CMU
Program. Served as single point of contact for all baseline issues and
technical clarifications for operators, multiple government agencies, and
defense contractors from four major corporations. Supervised five
engineers and eight support personnel.
