Tissue Mill Serve as the technical resource for the Tissue
area, assist in the coordination and implementation of process
trials and data analysis on all five tissue machines, daily
interaction with operations to determine process issues and
troubleshoot as necessary, process improvement and optimization
project work, participation in scheduled down days, completion
of weekly safety inspections, assist quality control engineer
in the identification and resolution of any quality issues.
Examples of specific project work and assigned tasks are as
follows:
. Increase Softness of Finished Products
o Softness has declined recently. Working with crews
and chemical vendors to determine steps to increase
softness by changing machine parameters, adding
softener chemicals, and looking at changing chemical
packages on the machines.
. Putty
o Seasonal buildup occurs and causes operational
inadequacies for the tissue machines. Current
buildup is large in quantity and is not fading.
o Worked with Pulp Mill to identify and rectify causes
of seasonal buildup on three of the tissue machines.
. POC (Plan of Control)
o Worked with quality group to revise machine
parameters and developed a working information page
that all operators are able to reference and use as
an operating guide.
Tissue Mill Shift Supervisor Responsible for overseeing
production on 8hr shift rotation for five tissue machines;
communicating with other production areas such as Utilities and
Pulp/Bleach to make decisions regarding productivity/inventory
management/downtime, reporting productivity/area status to mill
management, scheduling maintenance resources as required,
conducting trials, quality assurance checks, completion of down
day tasks and all associated safety procedures (lock out tag
out, hot work permit, safe work permitting, etc.), completion
of shift foreman log/production report, creating work schedule
for operators, management of approximately 25 hourly
employees.
Utilities/ Pulp Mill Job responsibilities included providing
technical assistance to production areas as required, assist
operations with process troubleshooting, and working with other
area engineers to implement and conduct process improvement
projects. Examples of project work conducted in Utilities/Pulp
areas are as follows:
. Mill-wide water balance
o Worked with the corporate team to conduct a mill-
wide water balance to identify potential cost
savings associated with the reduction of excessive
water usage.
. Mill information database (PI)
o Built data analysis tool for the Pulp mill
leadership team to allow for the tracking and
monitoring of process parameters.
. Turbine Generators
o Utilized database to pull operational information on
turbine generators.
o Large cost savings associated with condensate return
system
. Demineralizers
o Worked with operations to address environmental
regulatory requirements regarding the demineralizer
spent acid disposal/neutralization.
Process Engineering Co-op.
Georgia Pacific, LLC, Crossett, AR Summer 2006, Spring
2007, Summer 2007
. Participated in process improvement projects in Tissue,
Fine Paper, and Utilities areas.
. Worked with Utilities Optimizer on updated approach to
Boiler Feed water system; researched and initiated
Reverse Osmosis installation to replace existing
demineralizer units.
. Managed Soap system in Utilities area
. Conducted lab work in Tissue area for quality control
. Worked closely with CPS coordinator to improve Chemical
Process Safety system.
o Helped develop Process Safety Information (PSI) for
numerous chemical systems throughout the facility.
o Assisted in the establishment of a Chemical Process
Safety library/electronic tracking system.
o Worked with original equipment manufacturer to
inspect ClO2 Generators during the annual outage and
document findings.
o Participated in Process Hazard Analysis (PHA) for
various covered systems.
