SUMMARY OF SKILLS:

Tenure at Continental Carbon, Goodrich, and Modular Process Control built

skills both in hands-on work and in engineering training and projects,

particularly in time management and communication to convey necessary ideas

to both engineering and non-engineering employees. Engineering coursework

at the University of Akron and Rose-Hulman complements those hands-on

skills and includes the standard chemical engineering curriculum, an

undergraduate environmental engineering minor with some graduate-level work

in the field, consulting certification, and many polymer-related courses

(such as lab, coatings, and colloids.) Additional skills and

qualifications include experience with 100% travel, FE/EIT certification,

TWIC card, six sigma/FMEA/lean manufacturing, computers (HTML, BASIC,

assembly, MATLAB, PowerPoint, Visio, ASPEN PLUS/IPE, Maple, DCS, PI, IP21,

statistical process control, and FORTRAN) and Japanese language (two

courses.)

WORK EXPERIENCE:

Modular Process Control, Chesterfield, MO-Energy Consultant Engineer

2/2009-3/2010

. In contracting with Valero Energy, assisted the Energy Stewardship

Program at the Port Arthur, Ardmore, and Three Rivers refineries, by

helping with energy team meetings, assisting engineers in the value

estimation, prioritization, and implementation of energy action items

totaling millions in annualized energy savings, and helping with

plantwide fuel and steam balances

. Active in going into the field, investigating leaks and valves, and

visiting control rooms to communicate with operators

. Gained familiarity with IP21, PI, energy ratios and models to monitor

flows and energy use plantwide and on each unit

. Experience with different refinery types (low and high throughput,

sweet and sour crude, and production of asphalt, aromatics and

lubricants in addition to gasoline and diesel) and energy measures

(Solomon EII, dynamic targets)

. Trained in the Energy Resource Program to find minimum energy use in

plant

Goodrich Deicing & Specialty Systems, Uniontown, OH-Co-op Materials

Engineer 9/2007-1/2008

. Performed construction, removal and daily flex-testing of deicers;

design of composites

. Instron testing of materials and analysis of results using

experimental design principles

. Wrote technical report entailing historical design and rain erosion

testing of material

. Formulation, rheometer testing and curing of rubber samples

. Composite preparation, layup, and autoclave curing

Continental Carbon, Ponca City, OK-Process

Engineer

12/2005-4/2006

. Trained in safety, operation, statistical process control (PID/digital

control system,) generators, reactor lighting, oil and quench nozzles,

product storage and shipping, lab quality testing

. Helped maintain boilers; tested boiler water for conductivity,

hardness, alkalinity, sulfite daily

. Redesigned water pumps to multi-stage and increased quench pressure,

flow, and therefore yield through air pre-heater; used pump curves to

find efficiency and flow vis a vis horsepower

. Analyzed reverse-flow and pulse-jet filter systems and drying drum

fireboxes to eliminate emissions and meet ODEQ regulations; used fan

curves to determine flow and efficiency in this process

. Took over weekly inventorying of fans, finished product, reactor

temperatures, binder quality

. Audited production reports and QualTrax instructions, made process

improvements, and communicated with outside sales representatives on

new process equipment.
