EXPERIENCE
2004 - Present Toyota Motor Engineering & Manufacturing North America
Erlanger, KY
Manager, Customer Quality Engineering (since July'09)
. Manage and supervise the engineering group responsible for early
detection and early resolution of field issues (warranty, customer
satisfaction, service campaigns, recalls) for trucks and large SUVs
body and electrical systems.
. Coordinate activities with manufacturing and design groups to
identify root cause of field issues.
Manager, Supplier Quality Assurance & Development
. Manage and supervise the engineering group in charge of electronic
supplier quality assurance and development of high risk electronic
suppliers to all 6 Toyota's vehicle assembly plants in the US, Canada,
and Mexico.
. Successfully managed a $380,000 annual budget by achieving 95%
utilization.
. Implemented Toyota Production System to improve the operations of 4
suppliers in Mexico. Leading to a reduction of in-process defects
between 50% to 70%, and a 30% reduction of defects flowing out to
Toyota's plants.
. Accomplished successful plant moves from the US to Mexico for 3
different suppliers.
. Benchmarked the top electronics assembly plants in Japan and created
best practices audit and implementation system to deploy to US
suppliers. Applied to 14 different manufacturing plants in the US and
Mexico.
. Developed one supplier's system to improve its sub-suppliers; achieved
80% reduction in warranty costs from previous program.
. Managed the launch of the new generation engine computer for the best
selling Toyota model. Coordinated activities with Toyota's design
group in Japan, the supplier's design group in Singapore, and the
manufacturing plants in the US and Mexico.
Manager, Supplier Quality Assurance - Raw Materials (Steel &
Coatings)
. Responsible for the quality of paints and sealers used on all 6
vehicle manufacturing plants in US, Canada, and Mexico, with a total
annual production of about 1.4 million vehicles.
. Managed introduction of cutting edge environmentally friendly paint
technology to 2 vehicle plants.
. Coordinated production continuation at a sealer supplier during a
prolonged union strike at the supplier.
. Led a company-wide initiative aimed to improve quality and reliability
of Toyota's just-in-time (JIT) North American steel supply-chain.
Manager - Purchasing Strategy
. Developed system to quantify the impact of raw material price
fluctuations on vehicle cost.
. Led the development of a centralized purchasing system for steel and
resins achieving raw material cost savings of up to 50% for selected
small and medium suppliers.
. Coordinated a Kaizen activity of all purchasing core processes
(sourcing, pricing, supplier relations). Used best practices from
Japan's office to identify gaps. Implemented buyers training plans for
plastic parts, and steel commodities.
2000-2002 Intel Corporation, Chandler, AZ
Manager - Manufacturing Technology Development
. Managed a team of 15 engineers and technicians in charge of developing
the next generation soldering manufacturing processes for Intel's
microprocessors.
. Led $35M in equipment selection and qualification for Intel's global
semiconductor packaging operations in Costa Rica, Malaysia, and
Philippines.
. Led the successful development of the first high volume flip-chip
assembly process with lead-free solder for Intel's CPU products.
. Led the development and transfer of copy-exactly flip-chip assembly
process to manufacturing sites in Philippines, Costa Rica and
Malaysia. As the lead engineer, I ensured we met yield goals, process
stability, capability, and matching across 4 manufacturing sites.
. Led a team of engineers and scientists to develop a high-volume
manufacturing process for a novel thermal interface solution to cool a
new generation of microprocessors.
1999-2000 Sr. Engineer - Connector Development
. Coordinated the efforts of materials, design, and supplier management
engineers to design and qualify an ultra-low-profile connector for
Mobile CPU Products meeting all performance goals.
1998-1999 Yield Integration Engineer - Flip-Chip Semiconductor Packaging
. Managed the task force responsible for addressing the most important
yield issue during the development of the flip-chip pin grid-array
packaging technology. Coordinated, and prioritized the activities of a
cross-functional team of 15 engineers and scientists on an extremely
tight schedule to meet yield targets, and enabling on-time product
launch. Awarded, as task force leader, the Division recognition for
"Results orientation and quality."
1988-1994 Talbot S.A. Classic Car Reconstruction Caracas, Venezuela
. Reconstruction of classic cars such as: 1957 Mercedes 300 SL Gull-
wing, 1954 MG TF, 1964 Porsche 356 SC, 1965 Mustang Fastback, and 1954
Chrysler Fire Arrow (concept car).
