PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE
BASF CORPORATION, BEACHWOOD, OH to
April 2008
(BASF acquired Engelhard)
Technical Specialist/Laboratory Manager
Performed tests in a plastics processing laboratory with technician(s).
Reported the technical results on pigments for plastic applications.
Supported sales, marketing, research, development and two production
facilities.
. Vision: Identified possible improvements for the plastics laboratory.
This involved purchasing $200,000 of new processing equipment. This
was approved and completed over a three year period.
. Documentation: Published the plastics equipment processing startup and
testing procedures for all applications in plastics.
. Relocation: Coordinated the relocation of the equipment in the
plastics laboratory - on two acassions over a period of 22 years. This
included a successful startup following each move. Also, trained new
personnel.
. Short notice: Created the first computerized Rigid PVC color matching
data base - for seven inorganic pigments and completed six exterior
siding color matches in a total of nine days. 17 Years later,
completed comprehensive (Engelhard/BASF) data base of 150 (organic and
inorganic) pigments for plastics.
. Responsive: Within 20 minutes, all processing equipment could be
operational to produce valued results. Equipment included: five
different type of Mixers, one Twin Screw Extruder, two Single Screw
Extruders, two Injection Molding Machines, one Two Roll Mill, two
Presses, seven Exposure Devices, one Visible Spectrophotometer and one
Near IR Spectrophotometer.
. Scale up: Experience with processing pilot size batches (up to 500#)
from lab trials (1#). Identified and modified variables to maintain
uniformity.
