Telecommunications Law: Represent leading telecommunications companies
before the Federal Communications Commission (FCC). Draft comments, waiver
requests and petitions for transfer of control in FCC proceedings. Research
and evaluate the impact and applicability of Federal laws, regulation and
legislation within the wireless industry. Research and provide advice on
network neutrality issues. Draft, revise and negotiate reseller and end
user agreements relating to the marketing, sale and distribution of
software products and enforceability of reseller agreement in various
countries. Communicate with local foreign counsel with respect to due
diligence efforts. Represent Dow 30/Fortune 15 corporations in the
implementation of its nationwide video franchising plans. Render legal
opinions to in-house counsel with respect to the scope of any transaction.
Draft, review and negotiate local franchise agreements, including providing
representation at public hearing before municipal organizations and confer
with in-house counsel. Successfully deliver over 100 cable franchise
agreements as part of the corporation's strategy.
Legislative and Public Policy: Assist in controversy related to sale of
port management businesses in issues before Congress and other US
regulatory agencies including the Committee on Foreign Investment. Assist
and provide strategic advice regarding the regulation of foreign
investment, antitrust and national security. Report all of the financial
activities, including direct donations and other expenses on behalf of
Alston & Bird's Political Action Committee. Responsibilities include filing
reports with the Federal Election Committee, House of Representatives,
Senate and different Lobbying Commissions. Advice Indian Tribal
Governments, Tribes and American Indians regarding provisions contained in
the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009.
Financial Services: Draft, review, file and negotiate money transmitter
license applications with multiple regulatory agencies on behalf of money
services businesses. Advise clients on anti-money laundering issues.
