techniques like strain gages, ultrasonics, eddy current inspection and

impedance measurements.

o Used LabVIEW to acquire and store data from the clip-on sensor using NI

data acquisition module.

o Designed prognostic module in LabVIEW that interfaces with clip-on

sensor for damage detection of hydraulic hoses.

o Optimized piezoelectric sensor to improve the functionality of PVDF

sensor for higher temperature applications.

. Sensor skin for Surface Structural Health Monitoring

o Conceptualized and developed a novel sensing technique to detect damage

over large areas and performed material testing, implementation and

validation of concept; online monitoring using NI data acquisition

module.

o Developed a sensor skin prototype embedded to hydraulic hose with

capability to detect damage like pin holes, oil leak.

o Attached sensor skin to a composite fiberglass panel to detect any

surface damage in the structure.

. Carbon Nanotube (CNT) Yarn for Composite Leading Edge Self Monitoring and

Icing Detection

o Designed and developed an impedance based CNT yarn sensor using carbon

nanotubes threads spun from long CNT.

o Performed laboratory experiments to validate the concept of using CNT

yarn sensor to monitor health and to detect damage like micro-cracks

and delamination in a composite structure.

o New sensing technique to detect ice accretion on the surface of the

composite was pursued using CNT yarn sensor with data acquisition using

Solartron impedance analyzer.
