PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE
Key Safety Systems Inc. - Sterling Heights, Michigan
01/2000 - 01/2010
Principal CAE Engineer - CAE Department
Responsible to lead a team of 5 CAE Engineers to provide CAE support to our
company, including Steering Wheel, Seatbelt, Airbag and Hamlin Electronic
divisions.
. Provide Structural, Dynamic Impact (FMVSS 203 & 208) and NVH
analysis to support the Ford D3L and FD471 Steering Wheel program.
Successfully released armature design to meet all Ford requirements
including the new Maxilla and high PMOI requirement.
. Successfully provided an armature design which will meet the Static
Bending Rigidity test requirement for the Fiat-500 2-Spoke Armature.
We are the only supplier, out of 5 other competitors, that met this
design requirement and earned the Top CAE Technical Accomplishment
Evaluation from our Fiat customer.
. Successfully released armature design to pass all Peugeot PSA-W2
Steering Wheel structural requirements with the first prototype
parts. Well understanding of our customer need, Federal and
internal test requirements, enable us to fine tune the CAE analysis
(FMVSS 203 & 208) targeted our armature design to meet the
structural integrity of our customers.
. Structural analysis for the Ford PT Housing, enable us to use the
zinc housing body to act as the anti-rotational stop and minimize
the use of the steel anti-rotational tab bracket.
. FEA Strength Analysis of the Seat Belt System (Retractors, Buckles,
Anchoring Bracket and ATL Assembly), including static and nonlinear
dynamic impact analysis (FMVSS 209, FMVSS 210 & ECE-R-16) with
multiple contact interactions.
. Mechanism Analysis of Retractor and Buckle assembly blocking during
pretension (PT) loading with FEA tools.
. FEA Structural Analysis to improve design of the Driver, Passenger and
Knee Airbag Housing.
. DAB, PAB, and KAB Door Tear seam opening analysis during airbag
deployment.
. Developed design and integration solution to eliminate gas leakage
problem in the ADI-D Inflator.
. Vibration Analysis (NVH), including natural frequency extraction,
transient modal dynamic analysis, and mode based steady state dynamic
analysis including Armature, Airbag Module, Retractor, Buckle systems
and various vibration testing fixtures.
. Thermal Stress Analysis for the Hamlin Reed Switch to improve design
to avoid glass breakage due to thermal expansion and contraction.
Achievements
. 2003 working with the product engineering team to prevent a major
steering wheel recall.
Customer hub design was used in one of our Steering Wheel program.
Using FEA analysis we had illustrated to our customer that their hub
design did meet all of
the old structural requirement but not the new Spec. We were able
to show our original
hub design is a better design which can sustain a greater torsional
load and met their
new Spec. Customer finally accepted it was their own hub design
that is at fault, they
agreed to use our hub design in this armature and call off the
recall proposal.
Team work and carefully use of CAE tool had prevented a
catastrophic event and earned
customer respect and trust.
