11/2006 - Present Accenture, Denver, CO

Management consulting at various organizations for SOA and BPM. As part of the Architecture practice,

created a version of the estimator specific to architectural changes, contributed significantly to the

creation of a Community of Practice for Agile Methods that led to its inclusion in the standard methods

and practices, and contributed to the creation of an Open Source Reference Implementation of the Java

specialization of the Accenture Standard SOA. These were successfully used in greatly reducing cost of

implementation at a few large clients resulting in increased margins while still reducing cost-to-client.

Projects include:

Large Health Insurance whole seller and retailer at Pittsburgh (Feb 2009 to present) – Architect

1.

and Manager in modernizing the legacy mainframe / COBOL / IMS claims system (~50 applications

composed of ~900 programs) to a Java/J2EE based system with Websphere Portal and PEGA PRPC

rules based workflow to enable a geographically distributed workforce, integration of multiple systems

arising from recent acquisitions, and a strategic initiative towards hosted claims processing capability.

The introduction of PEGA PRPC also improves the workforce efficiency by enabling a piecemeal

engineers offsite to estimate, manage, and communicate to upper management as well as to architect

the solution for a real time claims processing system with workflow on PEGA and screens from a

Websphere portal accessible from the corporate portal reusing existing claims backend logic and

moving the database to DB2. The solution uses WebSphere 6.1 with Portal, Java 1.5, Spring 2.0, MQ

Series and Message Broker, DB2 8, Hibernate with JPA, Harvest, and ClearCase UCM. Reduced risk

and lag times in delivery by using Agile within the corporate RUP standard and enforcing test driven

development. The Websphere portal helped reduce the cost of PEGA user interfaces.

• Created ICEFaces and PEGA centers of excellence within the overall program including reference

architectures, whitepapers and training guides for use in other modernization efforts like Benefits,

Providers, etc. Consultant architect on Enterprise Architecture team.

• Drove the definition and standardization of a Security infrastructure working with the client architects and

security services group based on Oracle CoreID, LDAP, and custom rules integrated with mainframe

ACF2. Created processes for provisioning and migration of users such that their capabilities can be

integrated into PEGA for automated work assignment.

Large Telecom whole seller at Denver (Jul 2008 to Jan 2009) – Re-architect & Improve solution of

2.

Order Management and Implement new features that would enable automation of the existing largely

manual process flows. Member of enterprise architecture team to implement SOA.

a team of 4 client senior engineers and 1 Savvion consultant to select tools (Version 1, Clover, Crucible)

and improve architecture and development processes for this brittle solution running on Savvion 7.1,

WebLogic 9.2, Java 1.5, Spring 2.0, Tibco 7.5, Oracle 10g, iBATIS, XMLBeans, XFire, Maven. Reduced

the build size by 20 times and build time by 5 times. Improved quality by enforcing unit tests increasing

coverage from 5% to 90%. Added in alarms for OS, DB, WLL, and application system down or hang

situations or memory / disk overflow. Created a WebLogic portal to create custom user interfaces

including Savvion functionality to reduce the cost of Savvion user interfaces.

• As consultant architect on enterprise architecture team and architecture review board, defined a budget

aware approach to architectural standardization and technology adoption.

• Created and managed an offshore development support team that assisted in a critical period for the

OM development team. Reduced issue resolution periods from 2 weeks to at most 2 days with over

80% issues resolved by the support team. Ensured two successful releases for repeatable processes.

• Assisted development team with design and implementation of automation of the mostly manual order

management processes. Created a flexible rules framework. Added order prioritization using rules.

Large Funds Manager at Boston (Feb 2008 to Jun 2008) – Architecture & Implementation of a new,

3.

high performance framework to manage Trading of a variety of assets towards Asset Management.

• As Trading Systems Manager defined an Agile process to fit within the company processes, and led a

team of 7 senior engineers to select tools (Version 1, Subversion, Maven, Eclipse, Clover, Crucible) and

software (Java, Spring, ActiveMQ, Oracle, XMLBeans) to create a flexible, scalable, framework for all

corporate applications to run on.

• As Trading Systems Manager, now with an expanded team of 25, built common objects and services,

and started building Trading functionality for equity, fixed income, cash, and other kinds of securities.

• As Program Architect, assisted the client architects in defining a common production-ready architecture

for all applications enterprise-wide. Consultant in enterprise architecture group leading the effort.

4.

implementation of custom components in an Oracle Financials solution to replace an aging set of

financial applications over 5 years while integrating over 100 enterprise-wide retained applications.

• Sold the concept of a J2EE solution and an Agile process to implement the custom integration within an

ERP-based program run on a waterfall process.

• Led a 28 member team with 3 direct reports. Used Agile methodologies adapted to the defense delivery

process to create a pipelined delivery process that is flexible to accommodate the high entropy in the

definitions of the interfaces with the external applications.

• Conceived a generalized BPEL-based (Oracle 10g) solution and common framework to interface more

than 100 external interfacing systems in this phase and many more in the future. This allowed the

implementation planned for 9 months to complete in 5-1/2 months. This further enables future interfaces

to be added on quickly. Used the OAGIS BOD for a unified message format over an Oracle AQ

transport connected to the existing MQ transport within DoD.

• Added error management at the interface to Oracle 11i ERP with Oracle Forms, and management

reporting on the interfaces with Oracle Discoverer Reports.
