To Whom It May Concern:

With a strong business background I believe that my greatest strengths

match those most necessary to achieve all that you are seeking for your

Chief Operating Officer position. Upon review of my qualifications, I

believe that you will recognize that I will provide the leadership,

direction, and focus you are seeking.

My experience includes:

. Operations Management - The focal of my career is Operations. I have

been responsible for the production operations at the Milwaukee

Journal Sentinel since 2002. In subsequent years, my role in

operations expanded from only the production operations to the entire

company's operations. My talents lay in creating efficient,

organized, and well structured operations. During my tenure as leader

of the operations, the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel has become

continually more efficient, by changing processes, creating strategic

partnerships, and outsourcing certain aspects of the operation. The

level of output is currently the highest it has ever been in relation

to the workforce responsible for production.

. Facilities Management - For most of my professional career I have been

responsible for the management of the facilities. I was recruited by

the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel in 1998 to be a lead team member for

the construction of their new $121 million production facility. The

project was not only completed on time, but came in under budgeted

expense by $4 million. In addition I have oversight responsibilities

for all of the Wisconsin facilities for Journal Communications (parent

company to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel) since 2005, which includes

over 30 properties.

. Budget development and execution - I strongly believe that a financial

plan should be challenging, yet achievable, and believe that

department / division managers should assist in the development of

their financial plans so that they have a sense of ownership and thus

can be held accountable for the results. By working with managers to

set goals that are a stretch, and not easily attained, they are

encouraged to think outside of their normal modus operandi. They seek

more creative solutions to perceived problems. They turn issues into

opportunities and obtain growth they previously had not believed

possible.

. Quality - Beginning with my employment at the Washington Post, quality

has always been a major focus of mine. At the Milwaukee Journal

Sentinel, I was personally part of an industry transformation -

leading the only newspaper in the United States to become an ISO 9001

member. All of my top managers have been trained in Six Sigma. Our

goal is to deliver defect free products. We often rank at, or near

the top, of the USA Today Print Quality Facilities. My drive for

creating the highest quality available will benefit your company as

you strive for continued growth - providing the quality that will

attract more customers and better serve existing customers.

. Supervision - Years of being a manager and a leader have finely tuned

my ability to lead and inspire others. I have continually mentored

junior executives and directors, helping them become better managers

and leaders. I lead through example, setting my goals high, and

working hard to achieve them. I also believe in training and

education and have always encouraged my staff to better themselves by

taking classes, attending seminars, receiving certifications and

degrees. Several of my former employees have moved on to higher

leadership roles of their own, an accomplishment that I am proud of.

I have overseen the following divisions:

o Information Technology

o Human Resources

o Production Operations

o Production Sales

o Customer Service

o Distribution

o Procurement

I am confident that my innovation, passion, and resourcefulness will enable

me to manage the operations of the company to fit the needs both for today

and the future. My keen business insight and in-depth knowledge of

improving operations while leading tactical long-term growth activities

will enable me to positively impact the business.

I am a firm believer in continued improvement in myself and in others and

have earned an Executive MBA through the University of Wisconsin at

Madison. I possess excellent strategic and business skills and welcome an

opportunity to discuss your objectives and how we can accomplish them

together.

Sincerely,

Royce A. Miles
