Plant Manager
In addition to managing manufacturing, production and quality
control for plant utilizing 21 high speed automated
packaging equipment, state-of-the-art major
manufacturing processes and generating annual sales of
over $60 million, controlled all aspects of the
business including sales and marketing operations,
purchasing, vendor negotiations, human resources and
information technology. Initiated inventory management,
cost analysis, purchasing and vendor relations
programs, hired and trained personnel, automated
various systems and streamlined the operation (GMP).
Also, coordinated development and launch of new product
lines. Frequently assigned by parent Goya Foods upper
management to develop and implement new technologies in
other divisions.
Initially hired as a Quality Assurance Manager to coordinate
transition to manufacturing only operation by selling
off packaging component due to serious problems and
inefficiencies in the operation. After analysis of all
problems, decided to implement six sigma orientation
analysis and develop strategies to retain packaging
function, while reducing operating costs. Devised
information technology solutions to problems in
production, forecasting and purchasing. Fully re-
designed raw material and packaging supplies,
renegotiated vendor agreements, replaced a number of
suppliers with new vendors, and improved inventory
controls, resulting in annual savings of millions of
dollars.
< Doubled production capacity, sales and profits making
Sazon Goya one of the most successful divisions of Goya
Foods.
< Saved millions by reducing waste in manufacturing
process from over 50% to 1.42% in 2009.
< Previously, company was only able to resolve 40% of its
production and operations problems in-house and had to
use subcontractors to cover the rest. Now company
resolves 99% of its problems in-house, saving millions.
< Helped design and install proprietary software
application called Platform (03) to automate all
aspects of company operations.
< Significantly increased production efficiency and
productivity, and eliminated all overtime, which had
previously been necessary to meet production demands.
< Successfully expanded product line mix by more than
half, designing, developing and launching many new
products.
