Emerson Electric Co.
Mechanical Engineer (Intern), Generator Design Engineering Group,
Leroy Somer, Lexington, TN USA (Aug 07-Dec 07) & (Feb 08-May 08)
. Collaborated with electrical and mechanical design engineers on the
new product development of electro-mechanical systems and also support
sustaining products.
. Communicated and presented the progress of various projects in group
meetings with the clients, vendors and other team members in France
and India.
. Worked on various projects involving design, analysis and production
of various generator components based on the client requirements most
of which was done for Caterpillar Inc.
. Utilized various engineering modeling and analysis tools including Pro
E.
. Maintained a current understanding of CAM and manufacturing
capabilities by participating in various meetings, seminars and
workshops.
. Involved in the design review of existing generator design based on
air flow and heat loss. Analyzed the existing designs and recommended
design changes which improved the airflow and helped in better cooling
of the generator.
. Exposed to various engineering standards used in the industry
including IP-44, IP-23, ANSI Y 14.5M standards etc.
. Applied Oracle for Engineering Database Management Systems (EDMS).
. Assisted shop personnel with technical support in the design and
manufacturing issues.
. Checked drawings and Bill of Materials (BOM's) for accuracy and
conformance to ANSIY14.5 standards.
. Acquired the knowledge of Engineering Change Orders/Requests (ECO's)
and Geometric Dimension and Tolerance (GD&T).
Missouri University of Science & Technology (Missouri S & T)
Graduate Research Assistant, Dept of Mechanical Engineering
11/03/07 - 05/06/09
Lost Foam Casting (LFC)
. The Lost Foam Casting process was researched in order to study the
pyrolysis of foam patterns.
. Use the data generated to develop physical and kinetic models of
thermal degradation of expanded foam for application in the LFC
process.
Design of a Tandem Bicycle
(Team Leader)
. A Tandem Bicycle was designed and modeled in Unigraphics (UG NX3).
This group project included students from other university.
. Learned and implemented UG Teamcenter for the successful completion of
the project.
. Was adjudged second by judges from General Motors (GM), UG, Sun
Microsystems and MS&T.
. The project was held in collaboration with PACE (Partnership for the
Advancement of CAD, CAM & CAE Education) and Missouri S&T.
Increase the Flight Time of a Helicopter
(Team Leader)
. A group project, where the objective was to increase the flight time
of a paper helicopter by 75%, utilizing Six Sigma principles.
. Utilized the tools like the Define Measure Analyze Interpret Control
(DMAIC) methodology, Failure Mode & Effect Analysis (FMEA),
Statistical Process Control (SPC), and Critical to Quality (CTQ),
Gauge R&R, Design of Experiments (DOE), Lean, and ANOVA for the
successful completion of the project.
