Significant Achievements
. Organizational Ability
< Located, recruited, hired and trained personnel from the shop floor to
Sr. Execs in three diverse start-ups with spectacular short-term and
significant long-term results.
< In a series of one year management training loop assignments - purged,
redefined, reorganized and re-staffed a series of dysfunctional
departments as the Functional Manager of - Corporate Purchasing,
Corporate Fabrication, Corporate Facilities, Human Relations,
Technical Services, and Corporate Quality Assurance.
. Start Up - High Growth - Streamline - Shut Down
< Technical product manager for a virtual display start-up as we ramped
up from 20 to 160 employees.
< In 18 months, transformed a 6 man $600K family business into a viable
$3,000,000 company with $1MM revolving credit line. Owner sold the
business at the end of the third year for $5MM+.
< Point man in a team of six managers that established a high volume
electro-mechanical manufacturing operation from the ground up.
Directed the HR function for the ramp up from 18 employees to 120
employees in less than nine months. Included recruiting four Sr.
Managers on a national retained search.
< Directed the "re-start up" of a Novell Network design, resale, and
training company. Dramatically reduced general overhead while
increasing sales 300%. Orchestrated break-even after years of
consistent losses.
. Negotiation Skills, Sales Strategy and Tactics
< Sought out, strategized and personally negotiated a revolving $12MM/yr
scanner contract with K-Mart - still delivering $4-8 MM annually after
11 years.
< Personally developed and negotiated a series of long term $3MM to
$10MM OEM contracts in Japan with particular success selling American
technology to the Japanese.
. Strategic overview - Long Range Planning
< Co-invented a marketing/sales department and a strategic plan for a
major OEM when our "secure" OEM niche disappeared overnight. Resulted
in a seven year 70% world market share.
< Conducted blind interviews of several dozen top retailers in the US,
and an on-site technology research study in Japan that saved the
client a $5MM investment.
. International Marketing - Market/Key Account/Business Development
For three high-tech electro-mechanical, electro-optical and electronic
manufacturers, an aircraft/aerospace manufacturer, and one heavy
equipment manufacturer -
< Devised and implemented an international marketing strategy through
OEM's, VAR's, and dealers that resulted in a 70% worldwide market
share.
< Penetrated and maintained technical and commercial relationships with
major aerospace OEM's (Boeing, Douglas) and Airlines (United, Korean,
EVA, MartinAir, etc.) resulting in tens of millions of dollars in new
systems and spares contracts.
< Regularly conducted extensive on-site business development reviews in
the US, Japan, Korea, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Singapore, New Zealand,
Australia, England, Denmark, and Belgium.
< Developed easy to interrogate highly detailed 5-year Excel models for
profitability, product rationalization, and customer rationalization
to fine-tune the strategy for a $300MM business.
