Dear Sir, March 15, 2010
I appreciate you taking time out of your busy day to review my job
application. I am looking for a position with a progressive and successful
company that would benefit from my years of experience, skills acquired and
ability to develop innovative solutions. I am applying for the
Manufacturing Engineer position offered through Resume Book 360 and located
in Bowling Green, Ohio.
My skills and experience in polymer extrusion process controls, process and
product improvements and development of manufacturing and quality standards
would transfer smoothly and readily into any industry, including the
automotive injection molding industry. I have installed, started up,
debugged and validated four pilot lines and three production lines valued
up to $11M each. I have implemented numerous individual equipment
installations, modifications and upgrades totaling up to $900,000 each,
addressing quality, efficiency or safety issues. I have had the opportunity
to run DOE to characterize and optimize processes. I have served as
technical support to sales, acting as the liaison between engineering,
product development and the customer. I have served as the team leader of
numerous cross-functional teams initiated for the resolution of short-term
projects. I have served as a team member on three Green Belt projects. I
have a good understanding of Lean Manufacturing techniques. I work well
with suppliers designing and machining equipment upgrades and improvements.
Following are specific examples of successfully completed projects.
At A. Schulman Invision, installed a production line, started up, debugged,
validated, trained operations personnel, developed standard operating,
safety and testing procedures. The process utilized is a seven extruder,
dual roll stack calendar with co-extrusion and thermal lamination
capabilities. The line was in operation on time and on budget in January of
2007. Several die, screw and feed system design modifications to improve
throughput and product quality were successfully completed..
At Alcan Packaging, reduced run waste by 6% through multiple step
operations, increased productivity by 15% and reduced quality errors by 47%
by implementing SOP through the capture and implementation of best
practices, establishing and maintaining a formal process condition sheet
program. Installed in-line inspection equipment, reducing product flaws 60%
in real time. Reduced job set-up time by 50% by standardizing tasks and
streamlining the process through several Kaizen events. I transferred
results of these efforts to the operations personnel through hands-on and
classroom training exercises.
I have a good working knowledge of the use of ISO registration
requirements, APQP, PPAP, SPC, SQC, GR&R, Control Plans, Continuous
Improvement techniques, Lean Manufacturing and FMEA. I have implemented
numerous quality programs. I have also had the opportunity to be a task
leader in two successful ISO registration / audits. I am comfortable with
the MS Office software suite. I am comfortable working with and on
hydraulic and pneumatic systems. I have supervised up to 35 personnel in a
manufacturing facility.
Once you have an opportunity to review my resume, please feel free to
contact me either by e-mail or phone to further discuss how I can help lead
your client company in Bowling Green to the next level of manufacturing
excellence. I am looking forward to discussing how my skills can be applied
to fill your client company's continuous improvement and process
engineering needs on either a direct hire or a contract-engineering basis.
Best Regards,
Scott Harp
