Duties included hospital and professional medical coding for multiple
Emergency Departments in various hospitals around the country. Lead
coder in one site ensuring all deadlines are meet for the billing
cycle. This includes using knowledge of anatomy and physiology to
code IDC-9 and CPT codes. Reviewing documentation by medical
clinicians so that all charges could be captured properly. Daily
reviewed suspended charts for reconciliation after missing
documentation was submitted.
Medical Coder - Emergency Department
Feb 2004 - Mar 2007 University of Colorado Hospital
Duties included the review and analyzing of ambulatory medical data,
and using knowledge of anatomy and physiology to code medical
diagnoses and procedures for the Emergency Department. Checked for
accuracy and completeness to written and electronic medical records.
Worked, verified, and fixed internal hospital "hold-bill" codes to
ensure accurate and timely billing for the hospital emergency
department. Utilized ICD-9 diagnosis and procedural codes and CPT
procedural codes for these processes.
