Job Duties/Responsibilities:

. Managed a team of eight (9) claim professionals that were

dedicated to managing the workers' compensation programs

for the Department of Public Instruction (DPI) and

Department of Corrections (DOC) clients located

throughout the State of North Carolina.

. I was responsible for my team effectively managing a

claim portfolio consisting of more than 1,000

compensation claims, 800 plus medical only claims and

over $50,000,000 in total incurred reserves.

. Effectively managed and utilized a reserving authority of

$500,000 and claim payment authority of $75,000 when

needed and justified.

. Reviewed cases on diary and provided jurisdictional,

investigative, procedural and technical guidance to the

claim professionals as needed.

. Reviewed and analyzed all reserve recommendations beyond

the claim professionals' authority levels to ensure

accuracy and approved same, if the recommendations were

accurate and represented the probable and ultimate

outcome for the exposure.

. Reviewed and analyzed all recommended claim denials to

ensure the denials were supported by facts and

defendable.

. Completed monthly claim audits to ensure compliance with

internal procedures, as well as adherence to all

contractual and statutory requirements.

. Planned and conducted monthly team meetings to discuss

team results, new developments, procedural changes,

issues as well as any team or individual concerns.

with each team member and devised improvement plans, when

needed.

. Completed the annual team budget and monitored the

monthly expenditures within the team to ensure we

remained on target with the established budget.

. Monitored weekly and monthly management reports to track

established team goals and specific individual results to

. Reviewed and analyzed all settlement recommendations

beyond the claim professional's authority and approved

same for the client's consideration and approval, if the

facts of the case supported the professional's

recommendations.

. Planned, organized and participated in internal and

external claim reviews with clients to discuss claim

status, results and areas of improvement opportunity when

needed or requested.

. Served as the contact for the Insurance Section Chief of

the Department of Public Instruction (DPI) and various

Workers' Comp Administrators throughout the State when

there were specific claim issues, concerns or service

needs.

Reason for Leaving: My position was eliminated 6/30/09 due to the loss

of the aforementioned Department of Public Instruction

(DPI) and Department of Correction (DOC) contracts. The

elimination of my position was in no way a reflection of

my performance and can be substantiated by letter of

recommendation from the Senior Vice President of Human

Resources.

Division and served as the primary liaison for targeted

clients within the Large Account Division.

adjusters and three (3) administrative support staff

members in the Large Account Workers' Compensation Unit.

policyholders, underwriters, agents, and loss control

representatives.

policy inception to discuss claims management procedures

and requirements.

. Participated in collaborations with underwriting and loss

Durham, NC office and subsequent liquidation of the
