University of Arizona identified as the Southern Arizona Border Health
Careers Opportunity Program (SABHCOP), which was developed to for the
recruitment & retention of minority Middle & high school students who
were interested in pursuing a health career.
. Attended public forums, career fairs and border community health
forums to facilitate the recruitment of minorities.
. Developed and implemented a financial aid seminar to parents and
students who would be pursuing a post-secondary education. This
curriculum was offered twice a year to upcoming seniors or graduating
seniors who needed assistance, which also education parents into this
process.
. Developed and implemented Cultural Competency training for High School
students that addressed such issues as racism, ageism, bigotry and
hate crimes. This program was developed and implemented to over 300
students within 3 years.
. Developed and implemented a College 101 curriculum. This program was
delivered to graduating students of Pima, Santa Cruz & Cochise County.
. Assisted and facilitated the college application process.
. Recruitment of interns and medical professionals to participate in the
High School level of job shadowing.
. Recruitment of over 300 students into SABHCOP from Douglas, Sierra
Vista, Nogales, Rio Rico & Sells, Arizona.
. Provided IT support to SEAHEC and on special events coordinated by
SEAHEC such as the Primary Care Conference, Southern Border
Information for Action Conference, Bi-National Health & Safety Fair,
