Lab Student Worker (Wastewater T reatment) J an
2009- May 2009
Performed groundwater sampling, soil sampling, tests on wastewater and sludge samples:
ion content by ion chromatography, biochemical oxygen demand, chemical oxygen demand
by spectrometry, oil and grease content, pH, alkalinity, I ron content by spectrometry.
Summer I ntern
V isakhapatnam Port T r ust
M ay 2007- Jun 2007
Worked primarily on impact of Cargo handling and other port operations on surrounding
a tmosphere. Studied Marine water pollution due to oil spilling from vessels. Conducted
u nderground water quality tests to determine the portability of the water in the port area
for the port operations. Analyzed the preventive measures taken by the port t rust
environment department in order to prevent the air pollution caused due to Cargo
handling.
R esearch Activities:
Developed a cost effective t reatment system to t reat heavy metals like Selenium, Arsenic,
Mercury from Flue Gas Desulphurization waters from coal burnt power plants using highly
reducing systems combined with adsorption process using ZVI and achieved 99% removal
efficiency under EPRI guide lines.
Developed a t reatment system to t reat acid mine drainage and petroleum refineries
effluents to restrict the highly toxic pollutants like mercury, heavy metals according to
EPA concern using ZVI technology.
Developed silica t reatment system to control membrane fouling in desalination process
using membrane (Reverse Osmosis) by polymerizing silica.
Remediation technique to control arsenic pollution of groundwater in Texas using I ron
coated sand particles to adsorb arsenic.
