To whom it may concern,
I have a strong interest to be an Education Specialist at Elite. My experience working
with a diverse student body, both in the United States and abroad, provides a unique
background with much to offer. I believe I would be an asset to your company.
In 2002, I was employed at the Twenty-First Century English Language Institute as an
ESL Instructor in Umsa-ri, South Korea. In addition to a full teaching schedule, I was
responsible for level testing, lesson planning, curriculum development, and planning field
trips. I advanced to foreign supervisor and I also travelled to many other Asian countries.
I have student teaching experience at the ninth and tenth grade levels, in the ethnically
diverse school district of Harlem, New York. Teaching at the Frederick Douglass
Academy I discovered I particularly enjoyed working with low-income and at-risk
students. Careful preparation of lessons allowed me to break down sometimes
complicated concepts to examples that my students could understand. I believe in
integrating literature in the classroom which can be utilized by all students. Concurrently,
I completed my Master of Science degree in Adolescence Education at D’Youville
College in Buffalo, New York. My thesis project at D’Youville was titled, ‘The Selections
and Uses of Teaching Multicultural Literature in English Class.’
In Oregon I have taught in Beaverton at the Jonathan Education Center (JEC). At JEC I
was responsible for teaching ESL, SAT prep, and English Language Arts to students in
highly-competitive small-classroom settings. I developed lesson plans and curricula; and
I taught at a variety of ages and skill levels, which required flexibility and versatility.
In Portland I was recently employed as an Education Coordinator, teaching English
Language Arts at the Youth Employment Institute (YEI) in Portland. YEI is an accredited
non-profit alternative high school. I tailored activities to engage and maintain the interest
of high-risk students working on completing high school and the GED. This fall I
commence classes in the Educational Leadership Doctoral program at Portland State
University. My dissertation will focus on an interdisciplinary approach to
multiculturalism, environmental responsibility, and diversity. I will also be running in the
Portland Marathon this October.
My experience and education have prepared me to work well with others and to respond
creatively to changes, crises, and added responsibilities. I look forward to hearing from
you and thank you for your consideration.
Sincerely,
Edward Evans
