CURRICULUM/SCHOLASTIC DEVLOPMENT

Oversaw the Andrews University Bachelor of Social Work Program that is being

operated at the Washington Adventist University in Takoma Park, Maryland, where John

Gavin is the onsite program director of the social work program – 2004 to 2010.

Developed a course on School Social Work (SOWK 620 School Social Work) at

Andrews University, which began in the Spring 2005 semester, as part of a larger effort

to establish a school social work concentration/approval certification from the State of

Michigan within the MSW Program.

Led out in building the enrollment numbers of the Andrews University Bachelor

of Social Work Program. Since becoming the BSW Program Director in 2004, our

department has grown from 22 social work students to 60 social work students.

Served as the Andrews University United Way Campaign Coordinator, in which

the campaign was blessed to raise for the United Way of Southwest Michigan

$10,404.82 during the 2005-2006 campaign and over $12,000 during the 2006-2007

campaign. This amount was the second highest raised for the United Way of Southwest

Michigan at Andrews University since 2001.

Attended the “Goodling Series” hosted by the Honorable William F. Goodling of

B&D Sagamore in Washington, D.C., in which we had dialogue on important federal

policy and budget issues at the Metropolitan Club of Washington, D.C. on November 2,

2005. Congressman Frank Wolf, Chairman of the House Subcommittee on Science,

State, Justice, and Commerce Appropriations, shared brief remarks on the state of our

nation’s investment in research and development, and shared his views on the

research agenda that is needed to renew our edge in fields like science and medicine.

Spearheaded the South Bend Public Transportation Corporation’s (TRANSPO) 50th

Anniversary of Celebration Honoring Mrs. Rosa L. Parks & the Montgomery 1955 Bus

Boycott in South Bend, Indiana on December 1, 2005, which included Pastor Samuel

Billy Kyles of Monumental Baptist Church in Memphis, TN, who was an eyewitness of

the assassination of Dr. Martin L. King, Jr., as the keynote speaker in South Bend,

Indiana and at Andrews University Chapel Service in Berrien Springs, Michigan. At the

American Public Transportation Association (APTA) Annual Meeting 27th AdWheel

Awards, in San Jose, California, October 8-11, 2006, this event that was sponsored by

TRANSPO was awarded a First Prize Award and the Grand Prize Award for the marketing

of this program, which was TRANSPO’s first Grand Prize Award.
