Skills Developed through Work Experience 1992-2009 and My Philosophy
Organization of information and materials, and effective project management
leads to better outcomes.
In my two years at Book'Em, a non-profit that sends free educational books
to prisons, I developed a collection process utilizing reader advisory
skills in request fulfillment, and created a system to organize and
classify donated materials.
As a production assistant at University of California Santa Cruz, I
planned, organized and managed resources to maintain equipment, inventory
and stock, and ensured image quality throughout production process. A
critical skill was my expertise in a variety of methods and equipment to
mass produce and bind texts and on-demand print orders for faculty, staff,
and students meeting their exacting demand for quality and timeliness and
using the principles of project management and responsive customer service.
For 5 years as member of the Emergency Response Team at General Motors
Metal Fabricating Division (GM) I processed incoming / outgoing deliveries
in compliance with company, state and federal regulations. Excellent
customer service skills and attention to detail were essential in this
pressure-laden environment. Direct customer service care included incipient
stage fire fighting and emergency medical response according to established
protocols.
Customer Service - We exist in our roles to serve our customers and at
their pleasure.
Prompt, calm response was vital in my role as an Emergency Response Team
member at GM. Excellent costumer service was particularly important in
times of high stress as I assessed, prioritized and distributed the high
volume of emergency calls received in the communication center. To serve
the general public, I was the initial contact for non-employees to provide
vetted information and maintain confidentiality.
As deckhand in the Gateway Clipper Fleet, Pittsburgh PA, I was directly
responsible for key aspects of customer relations promoting the strong
reputation of the Fleet for service, compliance with safety procedures,
and customer satisfaction making tourists from the US and abroad feel
welcome and important.
Compliance and Attention to Detail - Assures every customer experience is
consistent.
Each of my positions has required adherence to process regulations and
procedures particularly my two years as the head of Security at Jefferson
Memorial Hospital, Jefferson Hills, Pa at which I developed and implemented
policies, oversaw lock and key control and all aspects of physical
security, instituted training programs and developed evaluation criteria.
My areas of focus blended compliance to procedure and respectful service to
all customers.
Team Work - Individual contributions + esprit des corps = achievement of
our common goals.
Contributing as an effective team member with people from different walks
of life, varying life views and different literacy levels has been required
in each of my positions. At Jefferson Memorial, I liaised between
administration and law enforcement. At Book'Em I integrated myself into a
team of volunteers with different skills but working toward a common
purpose. As a deck hand we all supported one another on the goal - a safe
and memorable voyage for our customers. While individual contribution is
important, I recognize that team work in which we build on each other's
strengths results in a synergy that creates a more positive experience for
our customers.
Purchasing - The right materials consistent with budget and time
parameters achieves maximum value.
I have been responsible for purchasing management for some product
lines at Jefferson Memorial and procured donated library materials at
Book'Em always mindful that all dollars must work hard for an organization.
