PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE
GICHNER SHELTER SYSTEMS, Dallastown, Pennsylvania ( 2009-Present
Contract Mechanical Engineer / Structural Analyst
Develop engineering analyses for $100M company that designs, manufactures,
and integrates tactical and logistical shelters for military and commercial
sectors. Support engineering department by formulating calculations and
visual representations of design, testing, and manufacturing issues.
Develop solutions. Analyze FEA models in Autodesk Algor to evaluate
displacement and stress data simulating real world conditions. Ensure
compliance with design requirements. Conduct validation studies. Review
manufacturing tooling. Carry out research to develop and evaluate product
enhancements and alternative uses for products.
Accomplishments:
. Developed 50+ FEA models. Studies focused on ability to meet product
specifications in areas such as transportability, shock, vibration, and
environmental needs. Other areas of interest were product improvements
such as increasing payload, improving imperviousness to projectiles,
increasing attenuation of radio frequency interference, and reducing
effects of pressure waves from distant nuclear detonations.
. Facilitated $750K in ongoing funding through effective research and
reporting.
. Increased production efficiency by analyzing tooling to improve product
handling and flow.
. Earned contract extension based on superior quality of work for company.
BAE SYSTEMS, York, Pennsylvania ( 2008-2009
Contract Design Engineer, US Combat Systems
Actively involved in design and development of new products for $20B global
company's armored vehicle design and manufacture division. Performed
conceptual design, kinematic and stress analyses, study development, and
design alternative studies. Prepared product marketing proposals.
Accomplishments:
. Played key role in conceptual design of next generation armored Combat
Engineering Vehicle (CEV). Modified existing design to use Bradley
engine, transmission, and track for commonality cost savings. Created
multiple vehicle suspension simulations to determine suitability.
. Facilitated successful design of front loader bucket and articulating
excavator arm bucket mechanisms for CEV, through kinematic and stress
analyses. Evaluated joint and member stresses to determine suitability
of existing designs.
. Aided in design of steerable high speed mine roller that attaches to
military vehicles to carry out detonation of explosive devices in field.
Determined new ways to use common parts. Produced new marketing scheme
and cost-saving components.
. Enabled company to secure multi-million dollar contract from US Marine
Corps to use mine roller system in Iraq and Afghanistan. Provided
recommendation to use convertible mine roller for proposal.

SUSS MICROTEC GROUP, Waterbury Center, Vermont ( 2007-2008
Contract Design Engineer
Supported equipment subsystem drawing and design at major supplier of
equipment and process solutions for microelectric wafer processing.
Performed design, drawing, procurement, and prototype assembly.
Accomplishments:
. Delivered 6 significant improvements to solder ball prototype machine,
resulting in improved throughput and yield consistency for Controlled
Collapse Chip Connection (C4NP) Mold Fill Tool.
. Successfully designed stepper motor to replace problematic pneumatic
drive on complex scissor lift mechanism for wafer bonding machine.
PARKER HANNIFIN CORPORATION, Greeneville, Tennessee ( 2007
Contract Design Engineer
Member of engineering team at $10B global leader in motion and control
systems, charged with turning around failing hydrostatic transmission
project for John Deere commercial tractor. Evaluated designs and identified
seal and O-ring issues.
Accomplishments:
. Re-dimensioned seals to enable initiation of production tooling in
China. Communicated extensively with Chinese factories.
. Identified further issues in transmission speed by examining prototypes,
leading to further redesign.
SCHRADER BRIDGEPORT INTERNATIONAL, Altavista, Virginia ( 2005-2006
Product Design Engineer
Recruited to spearhead $9B UK-based company's ability to design and produce
electronic or solenoid valves. Utilized Maxwell FEA program to calculate
magnetic flux. Procured coil winding machine to facilitate proper
application of copper wire in controlled manner. Developed cost estimates
for purchases. Prepared preliminary schedule to production estimates.
Accomplishments:
. Successfully designed electro-mechanical emergency pressure relief valve
for use in automotive torque vectoring system, part of next generation
all wheel drive system.
. Developed solenoid-operated fuel regulation and shut-off valve to
control pressure regulation of fuel rails in multi-port fuel injection
systems.
. Formulated and implemented several laboratory standards for research,
product development, and testing of electro-mechanical valves.
