Teaching Experience

- Instructor - Introduction to Black and White Photography. Developed
entire curriculum and taught course that covered camera usage, film
processing and printing, and darkroom regulations and safety. Result:
Received positive feedback and was asked to return to teach more
semesters. (Fall 2005, Spring 2006 and Summer 2007)
- Instructor - Journalism Department Computer Lab. Taught a lab of 80+
students and focused on current versions of Adobe Photoshop and
InDesign. (Spring 2008)
- Teaching Assistant - Photo 1. Helped develop the curriculum and
demonstrated use of camera and darkroom printing and processing. (Fall
2004, Spring 2005)
. Promoted to Instructor for an adult photography class after serving as an
Assistant Instructor at the Community Darkroom, an art-focused outreach
program for underprivileged children and adults in Rochester, NY. Classes
included Photography Introduction and "Beyond the Basic Portrait."
(Received small stipend for teaching, but was mostly volunteer.)
. Serve as a substitute teacher for kids in grades Pre-K through eighth
(one to five times per week).
Art Show / Other Experience
. Started and managed The Red Ear, an open-ended art space in the heart of
Alto Pass, IL. Selected and worked with artists to organize, promote and
run one- to six-week art shows (photography, painting, glass work, metal
work, ceramics or sculptures). Gained valuable experience operating a
business including accounting, marketing and community networking.
. Collaborated with two other women to create and run Heartland Arts an
initiative to organize and promote art shows at wineries on the Illinois
wine trail. Worked with 20+ artists and coordinated eight events
including four art festivals, two photography shows and a photo contest.
. Founded and ran art_about, a series of traveling art shows (six in one
year). Selected and worked with artists (15-20 per show, mostly students
and faculty at Southern Illinois University Carbondale). Coordinated
installation and event times. Promoted each show utilizing mass emails
and flyers. Recruited and managed volunteers for each event. Hung work
for each show. Result: Gave artists an opportunity to exhibit work,
created dialogue about artwork, established bridges between different
art/photography programs and generated buzz in the local art community.
. Managed Gallery 1101, the art space for the Cinema and Photography
Department at Southern Illinois University Carbondale. Coordinated with
artists, choreographed show schedules and changed displays on monthly
basis. Curated art work for the following semesters and oversaw all
shipping needs between artists, other galleries and the University.
. Provided exceptional service to store customers and processed and printed
digital, C-41, E6, black and white, and antique film. Did digital
restoration, slide duplication and scanning.
