Responsible for the integration and proliferation of IT into the
clinical environment.
Implemented Meditech's Patient Care System module that involved
automating the
manual processes of eight distinct clinical departments involving
Med/Surg, ICU, OB, ER, Cardio, therapies and oncology
departments. Each department required customized screen development
based on that department's specific needs.
Implemented Operating Room (heavy $ revenue center) surgical module to
effectively document all surgical procedures performed. This involved
a significant build effort that accounted for surgeon's preference
cards that needs to be maintained an ongoing basis. Because the module
is procedure based it also became useful for the Outpatient clinic's
documentation system.
Researched, analyzed, selected and implemented along with the other
PACS (online Xrays > $1.8 million)committee members, imaging systems
for radiology and cardiology departments providing online images for
clinical review by associated physicians and surgeons.
Responsible for recruiting, training, and retaining proper staffing
levels required for
expected service levels of the computing needs of the hospital.
Provided ongoing counsel and direction to IS staff.
Provided for the ongoing development and maintenance for the health
system's Meditech suite, email, and ancillary department services
including the operation of the open and legacy systems mirrored data
centers and WAN / LAN infrastructure.
Established development of various (ASP.Net, Windows Forms, SQL
Server, Oracle) applications for departmental needs not covered by
Meditech's suite.
Designated HIPAA security official for the organization. This involved
ongoing meetings
with all managers to effectively help change the culture of non

Researched, analyzed and evaluated upgrade of servers to a SANS based
mass storage (> $400k)
system. This significantly improved the uptime during maintenance
periods and also enabled automated backups at regular intervals.

Moved users from individual workstation based computing model to sever
centric environment by removing more than 175 workstations and
replacing them with Citrix based severs. This provided users with
robust system availability while keeping the IS staffing budget flat.

Implemented enterprise wide clinical automation of Epic (Madison,
Wisconsin) software ( > $16million - 4 year budget) for all medical
centers. This involved detailed planning with every manager and
department within GHA (approximately 1050 employees). This project
required a deployment of more than 800 PCs to inexperienced clinical
computer users.
Managed a dedicated team of system analysts that provided IS services
for more than 1,100 PC and terminal users between two companies.
Formulated staffing goals to accomplish departmental goals. GHA used
IDX practice management software, and EpicCare clinical applications
in 12 geographically dispersed locations in the greater Cincinnati and
Dayton areas.
Established and managed GHA's Users Help Desk. Established problem
resolution procedures defined Tier 1 and Tier 2 issues. Defined and
communicated IT responsibilities and priorities on an ongoing basis.
Setup super user group that aligned user needs with IT staff
resources. Provided user community with semi annual IT survey that
empowered users to provide feedback.
Presented regularly to GHA's IS Steering Committee on technology
utilization. Vendor selection for clinical automation, selective IS
outsourcing, and automating appointment reminders are some examples.
Had full responsibility for all IS Y2K compliance with respect to all
IS assets within GHA. Organized all departmental managers and
supervisors for Y2K compliance check program.
Planned and implemented new systems for human resources, payroll,
purchasing, pharmacy, an automated appointment reminder system, as
well as company wide messaging and interface engines (eGate) for
disparate systems.
