CAREER HISTORY - DUTIES & SUCCESSES:
Tuffy Associates Corp. Toledo, OH. 12/2002
to Present
District Manager
. District Manager for both company owned and franchisee owned locations.
. Able to greatly improve the overall Image (Customer Perception) of the
district as shown on the semi-annual Store Evaluations.
. Seriously improved Operations (Operational Procedures and Financial /
Profit Management) throughout the district as shown on the semi-annual
Store Evaluations. Created and implemented several financial management
tools (spreadsheets) to improve financial management for profitability
and to better manage cash flow. Often performed training on how to read
P&Ls and Balance Sheets, and how to interpret and use the information.
. Improved management of: sales, shrink, people management, inventory
management, merchandising, aesthetics, marketing, etc.
. Improved Sales and Marketing (Dollars per Transaction and Customer Count)
throughout the district. Highest monthly sales increase was 24% and
highest annual sales increase was 11%. Raised the District's Ticket
Average (Dollars Per Transaction) by $40, from $191 to $231 (excluding
tire sales). This gave me the highest ticket average in the company by at
least $40. I did this by implementing a process for finding and selling
valid work on every vehicle that comes through a store's doors. Tuffy now
uses this process company-wide and as part of their New Dealer Training
class.
. Performed Training in both group sessions and individual one-on-one
sessions.
International Profit Associates Buffalo Grove, IL.
2/1999 to 12/2002
1. Business Manager 2. Senior Business Manager 3. District Manager
4. Regional Manager
. During my 3.5 years with IPA, I was promoted from Business Manager, to
Senior Business Manager, to Project Manager (District Manager), to Senior
Project Manager (Regional Manager).
. Conducted intensive investigation of business needs, and made
recommendations for correction of problems. I built a plan-of-action to
address those needs (a project plan). All my plans were implemented by my
team and I, and training was provided to our clients, in all areas, to
continue or maintain the work after the management or consulting
engagement was completed. My teams always had 100% successful project
completion. I have a number of referral letters from those clients that
can be reviewed.
. Conducted training classes, as well as performed individual training,
regarding all "Areas of Expertise" as mentioned in my resume.
. Created and implemented new: sales plans, marketing plans, annual budgets
(with variance analysis), profit and expense controls, corporate
organization charts, functional job descriptions, employee policy
manuals, safety manuals, employee evaluation tools, progressive
discipline procedures, staff development programs, incentive plans, all
operations procedures, and much more too numerous to mention here.
. I worked with businesses whose products encompassed hard goods, soft
goods, perishables, services, apparel, computer goods and services, most
product and service types. I worked with manufacture, wholesale, retail,
service provider, etc.
. I also have considerable computer technology experience and knowledge.
ACE Hardware Corporation Oak Brook, IL. 1987 to
1999
1. District Manager 2. Retail Business Manager 3. Regional Manager
. During my 12 years with ACE Hardware Corporation, this was a fast paced
and fast growth corporation, growing from $1.5 billion in sales to $5.5
billion in sales, increasing the number of stores by more than 500 in
that time frame (I put in 33 new stores), and all done in the small box
format. There were company owned stores and franchisee owned stores, and
I worked with both. Their product was hard goods, soft goods (mostly work
and sport clothing, and boots or work shoes), house wares, fluids (use
and buy more), sporting goods, toys, perishables such as convenience food
items, lawn & garden, etc.
. Managed: sales, shrink, people management, inventory management,
merchandising, aesthetics, marketing, etc.
. Developed and implemented a very successful "Monthly Dealer Meetings"
program for 42 stores in upper Michigan. The meetings were held at a
different store each month, and the peer pressure was extremely helpful
in my efforts to improve the appearance and operations of these stores.
. Successfully increased the market share, sales, and financial growth of
my district's retail stores (by 141% in the first 3.25 years) from 3.5%
to 33% annually for each of my 12 years with this company.
. Improved and converted 38 "old style" hardware stores to the new "Store
of the Future" program.
. Successfully converted many of my district's competing hardware store
owners to the ACE Program (New Business Development).
. Supervised the construction and successful opening of 33 small box retail
stores in several districts. (As an example, I put the ACE Hardware store
on Beaver Island in the middle of Lake Michigan.)
. Conducted detailed market research and authored three-year proformas.
. Conducted classes regarding selling & closing skills, sales management,
and sales training.
. Developed and coordinated a new staff development program.
. Successfully oversaw expense controls and was accountable for all profit
and loss responsibilities for a region which earned more than $510
million in sales revenues. Oversaw six District Managers during my 3+
years as a Regional Manager. This included approximately 240 stores, some
of which were company owned.
. Developed and implemented an Expansion Area Survey, Target Penetration
Survey, Sales & Inventory Productivity Survey, Project Checklist, and
twenty-one other computer tools, all currently utilized by ACE to
increase the professionalism and performance of their national field
management staff.
. Above are listed many of the awards I received from ACE during my 12
years there. However, I also have many notes or letters from ACE
management patting me on the back for some kind of success I had. These
can be shared with you if desired.
Western Auto Corporation Kansas City, MS 1983 to
1987
1. District Manager 2. Regional Manager
. As a District Manager I oversaw as many as 48 small box stores in
eastern Pennsylvania and upstate New York (company owned and
franchisee owned) with sales increases every month.
. Provided sales increases every year with the company.
. Improved and converted 35 of the 48 stores from "old style" stores to
the new "FLAG" program.
. These locations were very diverse in their product offerings: always
automotive remanufactured hard goods (and some new such as batteries),
major appliances, major electronics, sporting goods, tools &
accessories, apparel (mostly work or sport clothing), lawn & garden,
toys, hardware, perishables (convenience food items), etc. Many were
very similar to the old style ACE Hardware stores and I was recruited
from here (Western Auto) to ACE Hardware.
. We had the same issues as any small box retail location: sales,
shrink, people management, inventory management, merchandising,
aesthetics, marketing, etc.
