WORK EXPERIENCE

Intern at Power Engineers Inc., May

2009 – Aug 2009

• Wind Farm Stability Studies ( Software used : PSSE):

Analyzed the transient stability of the ERCOT system due to the interconnection of the

proposed wind farm.

Performed contingency analysis before and after interconnection to see the effect of the

interconnection.

• Substation Grounding Design Project (Software used: CDEGS, SESCAD, RESAP,MALTZ):

Computed the step and touch voltages in and around the substation and developed an estimated soil

model for the substation by analyzing the boring logs obtained from the geographic location.

Provided mitigation techniques for the areas where violations of the IEEE substation grounding

standards (IEEE 80-2000) were observed.

• Power System Protection (Software used: ACSELERATOR QuickSet SEL-5030 software):

Calculated the relays settings and developed the logic for breaker failure protection for a SEL451 relay

Software Developer at Infosys Technologies Limited Sept

2005 – Nov 2007

• xTAM Back End ( Client: Pfizer) :

Developed applications in Java, J2EE, PL/SQL and MS Access.

Worked on server consolidation and migration activities for the application and all the jobs developed or

supported by me.

Handled major and minor enhancements as and when requested by the clients. Also handled any change

requests that may be requested by the users (accuracy of data)

To schedule and maintain various jobs that run on the backend to maintain the consistency of data with

the other databases and troubleshooting any issues that may arise.

Adherence to Software Development processes and methodologies, as the project required that we abide

by the standards set by CMM level 5.

ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS

• Attended a one day workshop by Joe Mooney on Transmission Line Protection at Power Engineers Inc.

• Back checking for other projects provided me with some knowledge/familiarity with ETAP, PTW and ASPEN.

• Performed load flow studies and dynamic simulations.

• Academic experience with Load Forecast Analysis, Contingency Analysis, Economic Dispatch and Unit

commitment.

• Familiar with Basler and Schweitzer Protection Relays

• Familiar with NEC and ANSI/IEEE Standards

• Provided guidance as an acting team leader to newly joined team members at Infosys.

• Acted as shadow support for other web based applications such as: xTAM Team Directory and Galileo. Shadow

support activities require complete knowledge of the application, as it has to be maintained during the absence of

fellow teammates.

RELEVANT COURSES

Power System Protection Power Electronics and Drives.

Power System Transients Power Systems Analysis

Power System Stability (audited) Digital Signal Processing

Distribution System Engineering Computer Security

Real-time Simulation of Power Systems

Computer Method Analysis of Power Systems

ACADEMIC PROJECTS

• Implemented the three phase Zbus building algorithm in MATLAB using the phase components of the line

impedance matrices. The Zbus was then used to perform power system studies like short circuit analysis.

• Assigned protection equipment, chose protection schemes, and coordinated the various chosen protection

equipment under all the possible states of operation. Calculated the settings and designed the logic for

contingency operations.

• Developed a MATLAB algorithm to perform contingency selection and rank the critical lines using the

performance indices and the top 10 contingencies was listed using PI method(AC load flow) and 1P1Q (fast

decoupled load flow).

• Performed transient analysis using PSCAD on a 115 kV 10 bus system to analyze the transient impact due to

different types of fault at one of the given buses on the voltage waveforms and current waveforms of all the other

lines.

• Built a twelve bus system with the given data, using the Power World software. Optimized the design and

performed studies such as short circuit analysis and economic dispatch.

• Analyzed the effect due to the interconnection of wind farm and solar farm on an unbalanced distribution system

to observe the effect on the harmonics and unbalanced voltage.

EXTRACURRICULAR S

• Vice – President of the PES (Power and Energy Society) body at Clemson.

• Member of the IEEE

• Tutor, Academic Center for Success, Clemson University

• Student Patrolling Officer at the CUPD (Clemson University Police Department)

• Member of the CISA (Clemson Indian Students Association)

• Adventure sports enthusiast.
