For the last 18 years, I have acted in the capacity of Project Manager and
Senior Estimator for Mota on multiple projects simultaneously. A majority
of these projects have been performed for the government such as the
Veteran's Administration Facility at Hines and North Chicago; Great Lakes;
and Ft. Sheridan Army Reserve Center. Herewith follows a brief description
of my responsibilities for a few more notable projects.
Army Reserve Center Ft. Sheridan Completed
2010
Mota was joint venture partner with Plata Corp. on this design/build fast
track $25 million project with Legat Architects for the Army Corp of
Engineers (USACE). Project was an 80K SF 2 story reserve center which will
house the Army Reserve, Army National Guard and Marine Corp Reserve.
Project was designed and constructed to meet a Silver LEED rating. Acted
in capacity of on site project manager overseeing all daily activities and
also those of project supt.,
CQC manager and safety officer. Administered subcontracts, assembled and
maintained all material delivery receipts for LEED points, monitored sub
insurance status, processed all submittals using USACE RMS/QCS software
program, prepared and conducted weekly subcontractor and USACE weekly
progress meetings with emphasis on submittals, safety, quality control,
LEED compliance as it related to job and design progress.
Residence Hall University of Chicago Completed 2009
Mota was a subcontractor to ASI Limited, the Indiana based curtainwall
contractor on this Gilbane managed project. Mota was responsible for
managing four subcontractors including the exterior waterproofing and
insulation subs whose work is all performed from either a stage or lift.
My onsite work responsibilities included acting as safety and quality
control person for ASI and their subcontractors. Obtained 30 hour OSHA
training card and certification training for stage and boom lift operation.
Reconstruction of Entry Gates and Truck Inspection Facilities
Completed 2007
Great Lakes Naval Training Center
Mota was a joint venture partner on this design/build $17 million site
reconstruction project with Teng Associates to rebuild seven existing entry
gate facilities including new gatehouse and sentry booth facilities with
emphasis on traffic control, force protection and security systems. Work
was performed at several gates simultaneously with close attention to
public safety, security and a tight schedule. Solicited subcontractor
proposals and assembled bid proposal. Attended weekly meetings with A/E
design team during drawing design stage to monitor design for compliance to
RFP and construction budget. Prepared, negotiated and processed change
order MODS with Navy inspectors and project managers. Worked with
subcontractors to break down gate costs and apply to cost loaded schedule
which was Navy basis for payment. Maintained logs for submittals, RFI's,
Navy MODS and subcontractor change orders.
Renovate 2nd Floor for Surgical Facilities
Completed 2008
VA North Chicago
Mota was Construction Manager on a design/build $10 million reconstruction
project with Legat Architects to renovate existing 2nd floor facilities
into surgical suites in anticipation of Great Lakes hospital closing.
Solicited all subcontractor and supplier proposals and assembled bid
package including take-offs and pricing for all interior finish trades such
as drywall, acoustic, carpentry, flooring and general condition items.
Attended weekly meetings with A/E design team during drawing design stage
to monitor design for compliance to RFP and construction budget. Prepared,
negotiated and processed change order MODS with Owner, inspectors and
project managers. Project was broken down into five phases so as to
minimize impact to VA's daily ongoing activities. Worked with
subcontractors to break down phasing costs and apply to cost loaded
schedule which was Owner basis for payment.
JOC Program, Various Improvements to Existing Facilities
Great Lakes Naval Training Center
Responsible for multiple projects on an open end JOC contract for five
years as site project manager and estimator using MEANS as a cost database.
Prepared all project estimates using quantities determined jointly in the
field with Navy ROICC representatives. Negotiated work orders with Navy
administrator. Negotiated and prepared all subcontracts, scheduled and
monitored work with subcontractors and superintendent. Conducted weekly
progress meetings with various users and ROICC managers.
JOC Programs, Various Improvements to Existing Facilities
VA Hines in Maywood and VA Westside (Jesse Brown) in Chicago
Performed same duties as listed above on Great Lakes JOC for VA Clients for
five years at both
VA locations.
Other Mota projects/clients include Ameritech, North Shore Gas, Chicago
Public Schools, McCormick Place and the Field Museum in which I worked as
the estimator, supt. and project manager.
