As a specialist in healthcare design, I pioneered benchmark designs for
senior living, inpatient, and diagnostic/ treatment facilities. For the
nation's largest non-urban healthcare system, I led dozens of projects from
inception to successful completion. By overseeing all phases of project
delivery, I have consistently delivered projects on time and within budget.
By placing the needs of patients, family and staff first and foremost, my
focus is on creating efficiency, functionality, beauty and flexibility in
healing environments while striving for optimal dollar value.
o Designed and/or managed more than 100 constructed projects for a
variety of clientele.
o Designed and/or managed more than two dozen healthcare projects in a
variety of modalities.
o Pioneered revolutionary, award-winning skilled nursing design,
improving quality of life for elders.
o Designed multiple projects using alternative project delivery methods.
o Salvaged faltering projects through reprogramming and redesign.
o Pioneered regulatory changes in response to operational changes in
long term care.
Selected Accomplishments
Salvaging healthcare project by reprogramming. I was brought in to lead the
design team on CMW's 60,000 sq. ft. obstetrics center for a national
healthcare system when the project, then in schematics, no longer met the
client's changing objectives. Working closely with the Construction Manager
to control costs, I reprogrammed and redesigned the project resulting in a
successful, patient-oriented, state-of-the-art 100,000+ sq. ft. facility,
which exceeded the client's expectations, while staying within the original
$40M project budget.
Collaborating on pioneering design. Realizing the social model of long-term
care no longer met the needs of our nations aging population, I worked with
Richard McCarty and Dr. Bill Thomas, a renowned gerontologist, to develop a
new paradigm. The result of this extensive effort was the first "Green
House" project, a clustering of residential scale, self-contained "homes"
that privately house ten elders each. This national award-winning project
became the benchmark for LTC design with over 100 "Green Houses"
established nationwide.
Designing and managing multiple healthcare projects. Faced with ever
increasing competition, North Mississippi Medical Center, our primary
client and the nation's largest rural healthcare system, was forced to
expand services in order to establish itself as the premier provider in the
region. As lead designer for The McCarty Company, I programmed and designed
more than two dozen patient-centered, efficient and esthetically-pleasing
projects covering the full spectrum of healthcare modalities and enabling
NMMC realize their vision.
