Associate Environmental Engineer
Primary responsibilities: Participated in the Navy Region North-West,
Hazardous and Solid Waste Functionality Assessment (FA). Evaluated and
conducted technological and operational assessments to identify and
implement best management practices (BMPs) for handling and managing
hazardous waste.
Notable Accomplishments: Created the Puget Sound Naval Shipyard (PSNS)
Waste Characterization Manual. This manual identified accepted best
practices and followed necessary environmental requirements to properly
designate and characterize hazardous waste that made it to the PSNS. The
manual became the Shipyard's main training tool utilized for the
development of new waste handlers.
06/96 - 7/2000: McCain Foods USA (Othello, WA)
Environmental Supervisor/Engineer
Primary responsibilities: Controlled the operation and maintenance 2.5
million-gallon a day wastewater treatment facility, three air pollution
control devices, a solid waste disposal facility and an $800,000 operations
and maintenance budget. Manages six-person team; supervised operators and
all contracted staff. Effectively communicated with operations and
maintenance organizations, state and federal regulators and a variety of
contractors. Conducted environmental training and maintained it's required
records. Performed detailed project planning and budgeting, pollution
prevention, and construction design review. Conducted periodic facility
wide environmental audits.
Notable Accomplishments: Obtained a reduction of scope on the facilities
Wastewater State Waste Discharge Permit. Completed facilities Notice of
Constructions (NOC) and Best Available Control Technology (BACT)
evaluations, for the installation of an Electrostatic Precipitator (ESP).
Negotiated amendments facilities air pollution control permit, allowing for
a production increase and establishing a higher output of both natural gas
boilers. Developed and implemented the McCain Foods Othello Facility
Environmental Management System (EMS). Developed and implemented the
Othello Potato Residual Land Application Project and successfully
negotiated and obtained the first solid waste Land Application Permit of
this kind in the State of Washington.
