Privately held, family owned LTL trucking business with annual revenue of
one billion dollars, 140 locations nationwide and employing 9,000
employees.
Senior Director Human Resources
Reported to Co-VP's of Human Resources with responsibility for Employee
Relations, Compensation, Benefits, Recruitment, Workers Compensation, and
daily operations of the HR department. Developed strategic direction and
development of the HR Team to provide world class service and programs
companywide. Due to economic conditions position was downsized in October
2009.
ABX AIR, Inc. - Wilmington, Ohio
2000 - 2009
Publicly traded, ABX Air is a $1 Billion-air cargo transportation service
corporation headquartered in Wilmington, Ohio, with 21 hubs operating
across the U.S. and employing 13,000+ associates in 49 states and Puerto
Rico. ABX was contracted with DHL to provide ACMI and hub management
service. Company also provides charter services within the U.S. and
abroad, manages three postal hubs, and performs maintenance services for
private aircraft operations.
Corporate Director, Labor Relations & Organizational Development
Report to CEO with full oversight responsibility for strategic planning and
integration of the DHL hub with the Wilmington hub, and subsequent cultural
and infrastructure development during a one-year rapid expansion that
included hiring 10,000+ new employees. Oversee a team of 12 managers
accountable for employee/labor relations and organizational development
processes, plus an indirect staff of 90. Member of executive planning and
pilot management committees.
Major Achievements:
? Managed a $25 Million HR budget at projected levels for six
consecutive years, while restructuring HR operations to support the
addition, and seamless integration, of 10,000+ new hires within one
year. Established mobile recruitment center equipped with computers
and Internet access to accelerate hiring and orientation of new
managers. Recruitment-to-hire time frames improved from 21 days to 8
days; as a result, met 100% of goals.
? Instituted on-site Family Practice Center for employees which
reduced healthcare costs by over $1 Million annually. Recipient of
the Gold Level Healthy Ohioan's Award.
? Restructured corporate value system and culture statement,
redesigned policy and procedure manual, developed and implemented a
company-wide Business Literacy initiative, overhauled the
corporation's Standards of Conduct policy, and implemented a peer
review dispute resolution system. Instituting progressive HR programs
was instrumental in maintaining a 90% union-free workforce in an
industry that is predominately unionized.
? Designed and established the company's Executive Succession
Plan.
Health Alliance - Cincinnati, Ohio
1990 - 2000
Health Alliance is comprised of five hospitals (teaching and acute care)
covering the Greater Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky region and representing
2,000 beds and employing 14,000+ associates. All hospitals are JCAH
accredited.

Vice President, HR Operations (1996-2000)
Overall responsibility for daily HR operations and strategic planning
initiatives required to support quality care and cost management
objectives. Led a team of 65 in all HR applications to support a
workforce that grew to 17,000 during tenure. Reported to Chief Human
Resources Officer with P&L responsibility for a $6 Million HR operating
budget.
Major Achievements:
? Oversaw the merger of five HR departments and subsequent
consolidation of numerous operations including the conversion of five
hospitals to a new HRIS/Payroll system. Achieved a centralized
Payroll, Records and Benefits Department to support all Alliance
associates; added University Hospital to system in one year.
Consolidation efforts, in combination with standardized HR policies,
generated $15 Million in annual savings system-wide.
? Recruited, selected, and staffed The University Hospital
following separation from the University of Cincinnati. Privatization
of The University Hospital produced $900,000+ in annualized savings.
? Directed the labor relations anti-union campaign and
decertification of SEIU at The University Hospital.
? Facilitated the staffing/reallocation plan for the closure of
Jewish Hospital and relocation effort.
? Consolidated the recruitment function system-wide for Allied
Health Professionals, resulting in an RN vacancy rate below 5%.
Vice President - The Christ Hospital; Member of Health Alliance (1990-1996)
Oversaw HR operations that included benefits, compensation, recruitment,
and employee relations of hospital comprised of 550 beds and 3,600
associates, plus varied administrative departments (volunteers, EAP, credit
union, pastoral, etc.).
Major Achievements:
? Produced $2 Million in annual savings during tenure by
designing and implementing a series of new practices that included:
Employee Retention and Reassignment processes; the development of a
Positive Discipline System and Alternative Dispute Resolution Policy
(Employee Satisfaction Index) to improve morale and reduce turnover.
Riverside Methodist Hospital - Columbus, Ohio
1985 - 1990
Director of Human Resources for this comprehensive health care facility
comprised of 1,079 beds and 5,600 employees. Operational responsibility for
a staff of 40 and a $24 Million operating budget. Accountable for employee
relations, compensation, benefits, occupational health, employee
assistance, employee services, professional and medical staffing.
Major Achievements:
? Established standardized payroll systems, oversaw the
restructuring of all HR policies, handbooks and benefit statements for
consistency hospital-wide, and implemented recruitment/retention
programs that reduced turnover by 5% and produced a nurse vacancy rate
of under 5%. Instituted a 125K plan saving $100,000 annually.
Additional: St. Vincent Charity Hospital and Health Center in Cleveland,
Ohio as Division Director, Human Resources.
