RESEARCH EXPERIENCE

More Effective Web GIS

Environment: C#.net and Java

Web GIS has been broadly used, these systems are used extensively throughout all levels of government, private

industry, and academia to provide support for spatial decision making and problem solving. However, the technical

supports behind them are various. In this work, we developed the web based geographic information systems

emphasized on optimal modeling and geographical data abstracting, simplified the data updating into geodatabase,

GPS data synchronizing and spatial relationship patterns visualizing and analyzing.

Cognitive Assessment of Post disaster Imagery Requirement

Satellite imagery plays a crucial role in emergency management. Currently there have been many researchers

focusing on resolution based studies. However, seldom is research focused on a low resolution based analysis, rarely

have studies emphasized the cognitive aspects of how resolution influences imagery interpretation. This study

introduced a new project combining GIS and cognitive assessment of post disaster imagery requirements to determine

the coarsest spatial resolution acceptable for common damage assessment tasks involving remotely sensed imagery.

Chronic Disease Rate Modeling by GIS / Spatial Data Mining

This project was supported by SC DHEC (South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control). We used

GIS spatial data mining techniques to determine the best way to visualize chronic diseases and analyzed potential

reasons and their spatial patterns by introducing statistical models (Ordinary Least Squares model, Geographically

Weighted Regression model, etc).

Adopted International Children Analysis

This project was focusing on evaluating the potential locations for international children adoption agencies. We

extracted demographic data of most popular races of international adopted children from the 2000 U.S. Census Data

(national wide), mapped the density of international adopted children around the whole United States through spatial

related algorithms, and analyzed the potential market locations for international children adoption services. We also

built a database model for future analysis.
