Professional Experience
kCore Corporation Apollo, PA 6/2009 - Present
Product Development Engineer
. New product development, infrastructure hardware and software
development
. Business plans, market analysis, business formation
Timesys Corporation Pittsburgh, PA 4/2008 - 12/2008
Senior Linux Engineer
. Direct customer support reporting to the professional services
manager.
. Porting Linux kernel, kernel modules, device drivers, and open-
source applications to custom embedded platforms based on ARM, Xscale,
OMAP, and PowerPC processor architectures.
. Porting open-source boot software (U-Boot, RedBoot, PPCBoot)
which utilized ARM and PPC assembly code. Debugging using JTAG, GDB, logic
analyzer, and low level code insertion.
. Hardware design review (schematic/layout drawings, data
sheets), requirements analysis
Accomplishments
. Reduced Linux kernel memory footprint to less than 1 MB and
root FS to less than 2MB for a custom ARM based embedded platform.
. Redesigned a Xilinx Virtex-5 FPGA based board using the Xilinx
ISE v10.1 design/programming tools and ported the lastest Linux kernel onto
it.
The Mitre Corporation McLean,VA 6/1980 - 3/2008
Senior Digital/Micro Hardware Engineer
. Gather customer requirements, technical proposals, lead
technical reviews
. Lead research and proof-of-concept projects for various voice
and data communications systems, generated/reviewed design/development/test
documentation
Accomplishments
. Design and development of a forensic data recovery tool that included
a graphical user interface, a bootable Linux CD, meta-data collection and
reporting through a network Remedy API, modification and development of
Linux command line utilities, system activity logging, and network data
transport. The finished product increased manual operations efficiency and
operations tracking accuracy by an order of magnitude.
. Lead team development of a communication monitoring system
using C, VxWorks OS, and VMEbus form factor hardware. Developed code for
extraction/insertion of data from an E1 data stream, integrated VMEbus
board level products, designed board and chassis level hardware modules,
reverse engineered existing hardware and software components to determine
interface specifications, and developed software simulation tools.
Completed system meet five nines high availability requirement. Received
Senior Vice President/General Managers Award.
. Development of a VxWorks board support package and real-time
application for a multi-channel audio interface controller. This product
was part of a voice/data exchange with custom control and interface
requirements. The design successfully meet military environmental and
reliability requirements and was transferred to a commercial vendor for
production. Received General Managers Award for Excellence.
