Ph.D., Chemistry, Texas A&M University, College Station, TX
Dissertation Title: A Unified Strategy Toward the Biogenetically Related
Oroidin Derived Bisguanidine Marine Alkaloids: Palau'amines,
Styloguanidines and Axinellamines.
Advisor: Professor Daniel Romo.
B.A., Chemistry, Florida International University, Miami, FL
EXPERIENCE
Pfizer (formerly Wyeth Research), Princeton, NJ and Pearl River, NY
2002-2010
Sr. Research Scientist II
. Executed small, medium and large-scale synthesis of pharmacological
lead compounds for high dose pharmacokinetic (PK) and maximum tolerated
dose (MTD) studies for oncology, neuroscience and inflammation project
teams.
. Ensured timely delivery and acceptable impurity profile via early
assessment of impurity profile of intermediates.
. Performed process research chemistry by developing and optimizing
synthetic sequences, conducting salt screening, and evaluating
crystallinity. Assessed compound purity and integrity via NMR, HPLC,
LC/MS and GC/MS.
. Managed and coordinated synthesis project teams of up to 4 scientists
during scale-up campaigns.
. Compiled detailed reports upon project completion and served as Discovery
Synthetic Chemistry representative in project transfer meetings
. Technical liaison to the GVK Bio alliance management team developing,
monitoring, cataloging, and tracking synthesis requests for advanced
pharmacological lead compounds, intermediates, and pharmacological
reference standards in support of Exploratory and Discovery project
teams.
. Provided managerial support in the Wyeth-Biotica partnership as Discovery
Synthetic Chemistry team leader, updating the project team on the
progress of synthesis requests during bi-weekly Wyeth-Biotica
teleconference team meetings and quarterly joint research committee
meetings. Proposed synthetic schemes for intermediates requested for the
preparation of rapamycin analogs.
. Guided and mentored a junior level associate during scale-up campaigns.
. Maintained and managed a ChemFinder database entering and tracking
synthesis requests for the Discovery Synthetic Chemistry team.
. Coordinated acquisition and installation of the Yamazen WPrep preparative
MPLC system for the Pearl River Discovery Synthetic Chemistry group.
Ensured proper instrument operation and maintenance and functioned as
primary training contact.
Sr. Research Scientist I
. Devised alternative synthetic schemes to lead compounds, balancing the
timely delivery of high quality batches with tight time constraints.
Enabled an expansion of SAR studies via implementation of a modified
synthetic route.
. Functioned as a lead Discovery Synthetic Chemist for a neuroscience
project team, which culminated the preparation of 810 g of a pre-
development candidate via a 7 step synthetic sequence over 3 months.
Conducted parallel salt screen to identify crystal form with acceptable
purity and physical-chemical profile, which was utilized in the initial
dosing studies.
. Served as Discovery Synthetic Chemistry representative on project team
and pre-development team meetings.
. Coordinated acquisition and installation of an analytical Agilent 1100
HPLC for the Princeton Discovery Synthetic Chemistry group. Performed
routine instrument maintenance and functioned as main contact to aid in
the training of colleagues.
